On the same day when we visited Catherine's palace in Tsarskoye Selo, my daughter and I still had a lot of time left and we did not invent our route for a long time, but immediately went to the Agate Rooms. This part of the museum is located next to the palace, in the Cameron Gallery Building.

INFORMATION FROM THE NETWORK: Agate rooms are located on the second floor of the complex "Cold Bath", on the territory of the Catherine Park. The first floor of the building was intended for washing, and the second for work and recreation. The rooms were built for Catherine II by the architect Charles Cameron, in which the Empress did business in the morning hours: she wrote letters, looked through state documents. This is a wonderful monument of Russian art, one of the best creations of the architect. In its beauty, elegance, and scale, the mosaic of rooms surpassed almost everything that Europe has seen until today. Gems, natural and artificial marble, porphyry were used for their decoration, the arches are decorated with modeling and painting, ornaments are made of gilded bronze, floors are made of rare wood.

We didn't have to wait long for our turn, although for some reason no more than ten people were allowed into the museum at a time. There is no jostling here, and instead of a guide, tourists are given a miniature device with a recording and an earpiece, so that during the passage of the halls a person knows exactly what he sees in front of him.

We were greeted by a long spiral staircase. Climbing it, we plunged into the cold world of natural stone, because everything around is made of natural mineral rocks. So much agate, jasper and marble can be seen in few places at one time, and here all the walls, columns and decor are made of them.

It is said that Empress Catherine loved to spend time here. Perhaps this is because it is very cool here in summer and there is no heat. To be honest, it didn't seem very cozy here. Perhaps due to too high ceilings or a small amount of furniture. Maybe in the old days everything was different here and the first impression is deceptive.

В тот же самый день, когда мы посетили дворец Екатерины в Царском Селе, у нас с дочкой оставалось ещё много времени и мы не стали долго выдумывать наш маршрут, а сразу отправились в Агатовые Комнаты. Эта часть музея расположена рядом с дворцом, в Здании Камероновой Галлереи.

СПРАВКА ИЗ СЕТИ: Агатовые комнаты расположенны на втором этаже комплекса «Холодная баня», на территории Екатерининского парка. Первый этаж здания презназначался для мытья, а второй для работы и отдыха. Комнаты были построены для Екатерины II архитектором Чарльзом Камероном, в них императрица в утренние часы занималась делами: писала письма, просматривала государственные документы. Это прекрасный памятник русского искусства, одно из лучших творений архитектора. По своей красоте, нарядности, масштабам мозаика комнат превзошла почти все, что до сегодняшнего дня видела Европа. Для их отделки были использованы самоцветы, натуральный и искусственный мрамор, порфиры, своды украшены лепкой и живописью, орнаменты выполнены из позолоченной бронзы, полы сделаны из редких пород дерева.

Нам не пришлось долго ждать своей очереди, хотя в музей почему-то пропускали не более десяти человек за один раз. Здесь нет толкотни, а вместо гида туристам выдают миниатюрный прибор с записью и наушником, чтобы по ходу прохождения залов человек знал, что именно он видит перед собой.

Нас встретила длинная спиральная лестница. Поднявшись по ней мы окунулись в холодный мир натурального камня, ведь всё вокруг сделано из натуральных минеральных пород. Столько агата, яшмы и мрамора мало где можно увидеть за один раз, а тут все стены, колонны и декор выполнены именно из них.

Говорят, что императрица Екатерина любила проводить здесь время. Возможно это потому, что летом здесь очень прохладно и не чувствуется жары. Честно говоря, мне показалось тут не очень уютно. Возможно по причине слишком высоких потолков или малого количества мебели. Может быть в прежние времена здесь всё было иначе и первое впечатление обманчиво.
