New clients and possible gigs

I have a love-hate relationship with work. When I don’t have it, I feel lost and somewhat depressed but the moment I have it, I get immediately paralysed and have numerous fights with self-doubt before I get it done.

I always have that moment where I feel like I’ll make many mistakes, do something horrible and the client would regret ever contacting me in the first place. It’s a constant struggle and this recent gig I got had me cringing in those fears.

Before I got this gig I was warned by 2 of my friends who had worked for him that he wouldn’t be easy to work with. So, even before I began working, I wanted to call it quits. He was told I would be working on only a Pitch Deck yet he brought a list of requirements including a branding project.

I hadn’t been paid to start working so I called him and told him that I wouldn’t be doing the jobs he requested but he clarified and told me he needed me to find a branding designer since I’m not one. My friends once again discouraged me and told me not to bother so I just focused on my task.

Thankfully, he paid me 60% of what he was required to pay me, I’ve done 60% of the job I’m supposed to do and so far he has no problems with my work. He made a few requests that I think are silly but after a meeting, I’m confident we’ll rectify them and I’ll be done with his project.

I’m super pleased with the work I did for him. I never thought I could do something so neat or presentable but I did and the person who linked me to him was proud of me. I can’t imagine how good I’ll get with a little more improvement.

My other projects were put on pause because of this particular project but I’ll be focusing on them a lot more in the coming days and earning some more money. I was also told by a friend that he has a foreign gig in line for me so, I’m keeping my fingers crossed on that one. If it works out then I’ll be a little more productive in the coming months.
