Polygon Launches Miden; A zk STARK Based Rollup

Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution, Polygon yesterday introduced a new scaling solution 'Polygon Miden' to address the network congestion on Ethereum network. Polygon Miden is a zk-STARKs-based Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible rollup developed by Facebook’s former core ZK developer Bobbin Threadbare.

Polygon’s addition of the Miden Virtual Machine represents an important stepping stone in helping to overcome some of the technical challenges of being able to rely on cryptographic proofs of computational integrity.

Polygon has so far committed $1 billion for the development of zero knowledge technology solutions and also merged with zk solution provider Hermez. Miden Virtual Machine will introduce two features, one supporting arbitrary transactions and second automatically STARK
proofing the transactions. STARK proofing tech is critical in development of dapps that require data privacy e.g. health care or insurance.

Miden Virtual Machine is in the prototype stage now and production scale version will be deployed in coming months with multilingual support for early adopters. Introduction of Miden will be a huge advancement for zk solutions, as they lack support for arbitrary transaction like Ethereum Virtual Machine.

Polygon has been spearheading the Layer 2 solutions development for Ethereum and is quickly scaling up its services to serve a wider audience. It has been attracting increasing number of developers and applications from Ethereum.
