INCESSANT INCREASE IN THE COST OF GOODS & SERVICES

Since we have been experiencing poor power supply in my country and my generator have been giving one or two issues for a while, I have saved up some money to buy a new generator set. So, I decided to go to the market to buy the generator, I save up 200,000 naira but I intend to use 150,000 naira to buy the generator. About a year back I went with a friend to buy same generator and she got it for 102,000 naira, so I used that estimate to save up that no matter how bad our economy is the present price should not exceed 150,000 naira.

But getting to the market the price of generator is 180,000 naira, if anybody had told me the prices of item is this crazy I would have thought that they are exaggerating. This was actually surprising! I went to different shop and they all gave me same price with little discounts varying from shop to shop. This really messed up my plans because I intended to buy other items that I have listed out with the 50,000 naira that I thought will remain. But this won't be possible any more, so I just bought the generator set because when prices get inflated in this country it rarely come down, so if I was to make the decision that let me go back home when the price is reduced I will come back, I will just be making the wrong decision ever.

So, I got the generator set and decided to buy only two items from my list. Guys, the prices were high really high, but man must survive. I still bought it like that and left the market. If I make the mistake of not buying it at that rate, it is possible that I come back the next day and the price will be way different again. So, it is better to just do the buying since I had the money at hand.

But where are we going to in this country? How can a poor survive in this economy with the constant increment in the prices of goods and services because the average man at this point can not afford all his need not to talk of reaching out to the poor. Then I ask again how will the poor survive, because prices of food stuff is on another level, and our government who is suppose to have our well being at heart is not saying anything about this.

It is heart breaking knowing that we can't do anything but live with this, I have never seen a bad government like this before, it was not always like this. I feel like we would have a huge improvement in all sectors from Agriculture, Education, Economy, Technology etc if the Government diligent in their duties. But we pray that God in his mercy come to our rescue and provide for us so we can also give to others.
