THE MAGNIFICENT LAKE CALIMA [ENG-ESP]

Hello, my dear friends in this fabulous Worldmapping community. Today I’m sharing with you a lovely tour I took around Lake Calima, situated in the department of Valle del Cauca, Colombia. It is an artificial lake which, for me, represents a place full of mystery and rich in history. It is one of the most important tourist and scenic destinations in this department. Although it is called a ‘lake’, it is actually an artificial reservoir built between 1961 and 1966 for hydroelectric power generation.

Hola, mis queridos amigos de esta fabulosa comunidad de Worldmapping. Hoy traigo para ustedes un lindo recorrido que hice por el lago Calima, ubicado en el departamento del Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Es un lago artificial y que para mí representa un lugar lleno de misterio y mucha historia. Es uno de los destinos turísticos y paisajísticos más importantes de este departamento. Aunque se le llama "lago", en realidad es un embalse artificial construido entre 1961 y 1966 para la generación de energía hidroeléctrica.

It is said that where the lake now lies, there was once a city called Calima which was submerged by a flood, and that some remains of the city can be seen when the water level is low.
This lake is fed by major water sources, such as the Calima and Bravo rivers. The body of water formed by damming the river covers an area of 19.34 km² (around 1,934 hectares) at its maximum operating level.

Se dice que donde está el lago antes había una ciudad de Calima que quedó sumergida por una inundación y que se pueden percibir algunos restos de la ciudad cuando el nivel de agua está bajo.
Este lago se alimenta de grandes fuentes de agua, como lo son el río Calima y el río Bravo. El cuerpo de agua que se forma al represar el río cubre una extensión de 19,34 km² (unas 1.934 hectáreas) en su nivel máximo de operación.

It’s a very popular tourist spot where you’ll also find restaurants and lovely cottages to stay in overnight. It’s an ideal place to go windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing, amongst other activities, as it has strong winds that are perfect for these sports. They also offer boat trips and a long tour around the lake; whilst on the tour, they tell you the story of how this reservoir was created. As I said, I found it to be a very interesting and, at the same time, mysterious. I loved this place; the water is very cold and there’s a strong breeze. I also really enjoyed the boat trip and learning all about its history – as they say, it holds the traces of a submerged past.

Es un lugar altamente turístico donde también enontraras restauranes y hermosas cabañas donde pasar la noche es un lugar ideal que puede practicar el wuinsurf y el keysurf velerismo entre otros ya que este lugar posee una gran corriente de viento que es favorecidos para estos deportes también brindan paseos y un largo recorrido alrededor del lago y mientras se hace el recorrido nos cuentan la historia de como se creó este embalse como les dije me pareció un lugar muy interesante y a la vez misterioso. Me encanto este lugar su aguas son muy frias y hay mucha brisa también disfrute mucho el paseo en bote y toda su historia como dicen en el se guardan los rastros de un pasado sumergido.
