The Thing About Setting Goals

Setting of goals is something majority of us do. Especially, in the beginning of new years or months, people often set goals and resolutions but how many people actually work hard at achieving them? Very few, I guess but those who do often record changes and developments in their lives.

However, it is one thing to set goals but another thing to achieve these goals. This is to say that, it is easier to set goals than it is to achieve them. Because, you don't need much work and effort to pen down your goals for a certain period of time meanwhile, a lot of work is required to hit one's target.

In order to reach your target, self-discipline, hardwork, commitment and intentionality is needed. If you lack this then your goals will only stay where you wrote them down. Truth is, many people do not achieve their goals because they lack discipline. Some pursue it in the early stages but abandon things along the line, could be because of certain challenges or lack of motivation.

Nonetheless, nothing should cause you to abandon your goals except you were never serious about them. Challenges is part of life and sometimes, you may not get any motivation from people. So, when challenges come, do not run away or allow them to crush you. Man up and face whatever challenge squarely. Challenges were meant to be conquered and not the other way around.

In cases where you find no one motivating you, encouraging you or clapping for you; be your own motivation and constantly appreciate yourself as well encourage yourself. The era of sitting down and waiting for people to encourage you is over. This is a lazy man's mindset. Get up and be your own motivator because the greatest motivations come from the inside. If you cannot encourage yourself then no amount of outside encourage will make you work the way you should.

Yes, it is often said that your dreams should scare you but I'd like to add that, when setting goals, endeavour to make them realistic. Don't go around writing down unrealistic big goals with ungodly timelines and expect to achieve them. Truth is, you will end up deceiving yourself.

Food For Thoughts
It's the second month of the year. Did you set any goals? Are you still working hard at achieving them? Or you haven't given up on them already?
