Newbies Initiative Task 3 - Hive Keys and Security

(Edited)

Hi Everyone !

This is a Task at Week 3 of the Newbies Initiative program, and previously I have completed the Task Week 1 and Task Week 2. And the theme for this week 3 task is "Hive Keys and Security" And this task is one of the tasks that are needed by all Newbies Like us because it deals with Hive Keys and Security.

Previously, we have been given a guide post related to the Week 3 Task, this aims to make it easier for us to understand the explanation of the Week 3 Task of the Newbies Initiative Program so that it is easier for us to answer all the questions in this Week 3 Task.

And yesterday, the management of the Initiative Newbies Program also held a Voice Meeting on the Discord Channel #help-meeting and the discussion that was discussed on the theme of Week 3 of the Newbies Initiative Program. And this week's Voice meeting was again guided by @samostically.

And the following are all the questions and answers from the Week 3 Task on this Newbies Initiative Program :

1. In your opinion, what are the best ways of keeping your keys safe ?

The best way to maintain the security of our Hive keys is to store them in places that we think are safe such as in Google Drive, Draft Gmail, or in an offline place that is easy to access such as in Smartphone Notes/Computer Notes or on Flashdisk.

I myself keep all these keys in some places that I think are safe Like in Google Drive, Gmail Drafts and In Smartphone Notes. I did this because in those three places I felt very safe so I chose to store my Hive Security Key there.

to the future, I might plan to store all of my Hive keys in another place, such as on a Flashdisk, because we really have to store all of these security keys in a safe place so they don't get lost or even stolen by other people.

2. How do you check your recovery account and what process is needed to recover an account?

One of the websites or tools that can and is often used to recover a Hive account is the one I show Below :

https://reaazuliqbal.com/HiveAccountRecovery/

The stages you just need to click on the link that I show above, then there will be 3 menu options Will appear and that we can choose, namely Account Recovery, Request Recovery and Change Recovery Account on that website. Anda you just need to click the Account Recovery menu to recover your account and you will be directed to the next step.

Step 1, you are asked to enter the name of the account to be recovered, then copy the new password and paste it in the New owner key column. And then you just need to click "Get Owner Key".

Step 2, you just need to send the Public Owner Key to the Trustee.

Step 3, You just need to fill in all the required information for account recovery such as entering the account to be recovered, new password and latest password.

And the last step you just need to click "Recover Account" to complete the account recovery process.

3. Whom did you choose as your account trustee, and why ?

If in the future I need to recover my account then the account that I will make as a Trustee is @akhyar23, And I chose him because he is one of my close friends who is still actively writing on Hive so that's the reason I choose him as my trustee if I need to recover my account in the future.

4. List the various types of keys and state their use cases.

After successfully registering a Hive account, we get several Hive Security Key Types such as Hive Posting Key, Hive Master Key, Hive Active Key, Hive Owner Key and Hive Memo Key. The following is an explanation of all these types of the keys :

Posting Key : This is a Key which has Functions for Make Post, Commenting, Following an Account, Upvote, Reblog, and Mute an other Hive account .

Master Key : This is one key that can be used to get back all other types of Hive Keys, so you have to really keep this one key because with this key we can get other keys.

Active Key : This is a type of key that can be used to carry out various activities in Hive such as for Transfer Hive/HBD, for Power Up/Power Down, Convert HBD/Hive, Vote Witness etc.

Owner Key : This is a very strong type of key in Hive because it can be used to reset all other types of keys, and even this key can also be used to recover your account.

Memo Key : This is a key that we can use as a Memo when sending Hive/HBD to another Hive Account.

Closing

And in closing I would like to say thank you very much to the Beginner Initiative Program Team, especially to the Leader of Team 1, namely @nkemakonam89 who has taught us many things and I also thank other parties running this program such as @starstrings01, @theycallmedan, @aliento team and @projectmamabg.

You've done a great job on your write for this section of the initiative, all your explanations are top-notch and excellent.

Although for the Key I'll say the major usage is for sending encrypted messages that is only visible to the person the message/transaction is been directed to.

Wow, these are detailed steps on how to recover an account... You did well to give your opinions on the best way to keep our keys safe. Although, I think I much prefer storing them off screen, like on hardcopy.

Indeed, the importance of securing our Hive keys cannot be overemphasized and it's important that everyone takes it seriously.

Good to see that the newbies initiative keeps bringing new insights for you about the blockchain. You're doing well!

Nice article ❤️.
