Unfair & Unjust

Life is dynamic and one has to deal with many things at a time. Stress level is ever increasing and to control the behaviours that arises out of stress is a big deal. And at many such times one is very prone to make decisions or statement which can make feel other person discontent.

Similar things happened with me during my employment. Being a good employee is just one thing and to perform is the other requirement. I always keep my temper in check. Anyone can be unfair at any moment but it is you who must be a determining factor when its your turn.

What was the situation?

I hail from IT background, though I am open to any form of learning and educating, but at times experience matters more than just being knowledgeable. I was give a task of reconciliation. The reconciliation job is that you have to cross verify and account every transaction you received or happened during a given period.

I completed my website, and we launched it. Soon we got a few million worth transaction within 3 weeks. Due to low on staff, I was given the task of reconciliation as well. I never learned reconciliation before so I thought let's learn this time. I took this task as well and the entire task got delayed.

The reason behind delay was that I was not aware of standards and no YouTube video was there that was similar to my case. I tried to ask for the help but got nothing as everyone was busy at that moment. Anyways I started doing this reconciliation task. Few days went but I was still not sure of my work. I got review call from my head, I presented him my worries and he said that he will take care of this task.

After a day, the progress was still not made, so I took back the task from my head of department and worked on it. I created a file based on my understanding and submitted the task. I got a call for face to face review. I went with my work and my head just started pouring out his anger on me. He said the progress that I made was not upto the mark. I affirmed with him on the point that it was not upto the mark but atleast we can work from this point atleast.

He cancelled the task and it kind of felt like unjust to me. Soon I became detached from my work. Although I kept a check on how the work was progressing.

Unfair

After a week I saw that some files were created and upon checking it, I was assured that they did similar to what I did, just they made the task more cumbersome. I reported back that what I did was better than what I saw afterwards. Yet the attitude of head staff was same. I left checking the progress as well.

Fast forward

I asked my head about the project after a few months and he said that project was still under work. And they were facing the same hurdles that I faced. I silently marked my discontent about the happenings and said that what they were doing after so many months, I did the same in my first week of the task. If they had paid enough attention and gave me a chance to say, they could have seen the work instead of just words.
