MY RESOURCE CREDIT HITCH

avatar

The journey of HIVE has really been an interesting one so far. You know, it has been going through a series of learning, unlearning, and relearning. It just seems as if HIVE is just another school entirely at different points in time. So technically, we are Hive Learners!

Yesterday, I was caught up in trance. Wait! It wasn't but a little issue, actually 😁. . I was just about starting my daily activities on the chain, atleast to smash my daily goals relative to MY HIVE GOALS - you could check them out. First, as I always do most times when I come online in the morning, I check all the notifications I have and it was not any different yesterday. Sooner had I started checking and replying to the needed ones, that at some point I clicked the reply button and it just was not going through. It was just rolling and showing an error message in red. I thought it was maybe a network issue, so I clicked the button multiple times but still shows the same error message. I must confess I did fret a little but not much.

So, I sought for help. I screenshotted the page and then sent the image to @ksam and @starstrings01 for them to clarify the issue for me. Lest, I forget, I’d like to use this medium to appreciate them both for their help. The both said similar thing of course - that my Resource Credit (RC) was low.. I was puzzled at first, I knew I had heard of that term before but did not fully understand what it entail.

Screenshot_20220404-104020.png

I replied saying that I had about a 100 Hive Power (HP), so why was that happening. @starstrings01 came through by delegating some HP to me, atleast that will make room for me to do some activities.

Screenshot_20220404-105352.png

Well, from this I realised there is always more to learn on both HIVE and life itself. I now see that what I thought was really ones literal power here on HIVE was not the (literal) Hive Power. That power to do and undo on Hive is actually that Resource Credit, although it is also built on HP. But, you know, like what happened to me here, when your RC is low, I do not think you could do anything even if you have got a million HP.

Now, even though I got solutions to the little problem I had yesterday, man, I have got lots of questions boiling in my mind. Racing through my mind are some of these questions including, but no limited to:

  • Is it that RC is a lot different from HP?
  • Since the RC is a percentage which drops per engagement and gets recharged when offline/less active, is it that those who designed the system did not fully get that it should run 24/7 per user?
  • Or was it an intentional thing to just not make it run 24/7 per user?
  • Why does it take much time for the RC to recharge? ..when my RC was about 0%, I saw that I had to wait 5 days for it to fully recharge.
  • Does this imply that someone with an amount of HP like mine would not be able to be active on HIVE more often than an average user? And so that the RC won’t drop to the barest minimum?
-What would these all mean for someone like me who, for now, does not really have any other thing doing but HIVE?

These and many more are questions that have been racing through my mind since yesterday.
If you love this piece or have answer(s) to these questions above , please do well to leave them in the comment section. And rehive to reach as many people as possible especially newbies.
Gracias.

Is it that RC is a lot different from HP?
RCs are a by-product of HP.

One has to hold some HP to transact, they are given a budget and it constantly renews, but the more Hive Power you hold the more transactions you can do.

Since the RC is a percentage which drops per engagement and gets recharged when offline/less active, is it that those who designed the system did not fully get that it should run 24/7 per user?

Transactions and posts are entered into the blockchain by our witnesses. That is an expense for them as they have to have enough computer storage to run the chain. The transaction costs are offset by ensuring those who use the chain actually hold HP. (to your next question..) Yes it is intentional, it cuts down spam, scams and helps the witnesses be able to run the chain.

Why does it take much time for the RC to recharge? ..when my RC was about 0%, I saw that I had to wait 5 days for it to fully recharge.

Again every transaction on the chain creates a storage issue, so those who do a lot of transactions are expected to hold some HP. I'm not sure it's perfectly calculated, but it works ok. Once you have some HP, you will be able to forget about it.

Does this imply that someone with an amount of HP like mine would not be able to be active on HIVE more often than an average user? And so that the RC won’t drop to the barest minimum?
-What would these all mean for someone like me who, for now, does not really have any other thing doing but HIVE?

If you have that much time to be active you should quickly earn some Hive and HBD you should power it up and once you reach 200 or so you shouldn't have any problems.

@whatsup You really gave detailed answers to my questions and more. I see that now all these were just to have a smooth running of the platform and reduce unwholesome activities. Thanks for these answers, I really appreciate it!

Yeah it looks like Whatsup answered you already, but just to add at some point once your HP is up to a certain level, you'll never run out of resource credits even if you spend all day on the blockchain. You're almost there it looks like, but still stuck in that awkward beginning time.
It used to be that a lot of people joined to just spam posts and comments that were all copy-paste, so limiting how much new people can use the chain limits people making a bunch of fake accounts to spam everywhere. It makes it a bit slow for genuine new people who are really using the chain, but eventually it irons out.
Just power up as much as you can and soon enough you'll be there. Good luck! :)

Oh, I see that now. For regulations sake. Like you advised, I'd look forward to doing some power ups then. Thanks for the advise. And the beer 😁

OH I will add! I'm looking at your page and I see you reblog a lot. Maybe conserve your resource credits and don't reblog very much - because that takes some, too!

you have quite thoughtful questions. @temibot

Is it that RC is a lot different from HP

RC depends on HP just as the voting mana. The more Hp the more RC and mana.

is it that those who designed the system did not fully get that it should run 24/7 per user

Perhaps the designer wanted the members to stake more and more hive in the system so that tge value of Hive do not fall but increase in the market (as we know hodling of a crypto increases its worth).

Why does it take much time for the RC to recharge? ..

Again, it is similar to mana. Both of them recharge 20% in a day

What would these all mean for someone like me who, for now, does not really have any other thing doing but HIVE

That's a great time of struggle for a newbie, but there are several people who love to delegate HP to those who are sincere in blogging. Newbie initiative is one of them. The delegation solves the problem. So, basically if you are capable and sincere the community won't leave you alone in the struggle but would help you via delegation and support. This way you would be able to earn enough Hive to have a HP of your desired level.

Good luck
