Market Friday: Fun Skeletons and Cute Houses
I missed the moment when these skeletons appeared at the entrance to the shoe store in Bankovsky Lane. The old building had always housed stores, but none of these stores I remembered. Except for a small antique store I sometimes visited, where I could buy old postcards - expensive, too expensive for a student! The signs at the doors of the stores changed, the facades of the building remained the same. But one day I noticed two new characters at the entrance.
The building was built in the late 19th century specifically for commercial purposes. It housed rows of stores for building materials. The inhabitants of the city called this building the Small Gostiny Dvor, or sometimes more specifically and accurately: the iron and paint rows.
Perhaps the iron skeletons appeared to commemorate the time when iron was sold here? I don't know, I searched the Internet, but I couldn't find any stories about the appearance of this handsome couple.
The skeletons have names. The first skeleton, on the porch at the corner of the alley, is Ludwig. The second skeleton, who rests on the steps a little farther away, is Lola. The skeletons are on duty at the entrance only during the day; at night they move to the sales floor.
Next to the skeletons are small toy houses. It seems to me that the shape of some of the houses resembles the shape of high-heeled shoes, but this is the only hint of a store. To be honest, I didn't immediately guess what was being traded inside, behind the antique wooden doors. Skeletons, cottages, green beds... it looks more like gardening, doesn't it? Especially since just to the left, near the entrance to the shoe shop, is an entire collection of gardening watering cans.
The store located in this building sells clothes and shoes. In addition, there is a workshop where you can order a drawing on sneakers. You can choose a ready-made design or bring your own picture.
Besides that, there is a cafe in the building, and another cafe works in the building opposite. I took a picture of the shop window, it looks pretty typical: there are quite a few small, cozy cafes like this in our city. Here you can have breakfast with cheesecakes or scrambled eggs, have a sandwich or croissant, or just come in for a coffee at any time of the day.
There was a motorcycle parked next to the store. It had nothing to do with trade or shopping, but I thought it was very cute that the motorcyclist had brought his childhood friend with him.

Haha! Why do I think he brought his child with him instead? The store is fabulous! I love the skeletons they have out there. I would bring them inside at night also! The watering cans, the houses, the bicycle - it all is on the whimsical side and is so delightful to look at. I might have guessed a children's store, but not a generic clothing and shoe store. I like the special ordered sneakers, designed as you like them.
It goes without saying that cafes like that are always welcome!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through by their markets, especially local markets and farmers markets and eventually branching out and evolving over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact of what is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
