New Years' Resolutions | For Real?

#BOM Blog Of The Month Banner Crpd.png

Those Resolutions..... What Happened?

Let’s see... I really don’t even remember the last time I even made a New Years’ resolution.
Mainly because of the fact that they are never last. A new year’s resolution is supposed to last all year or until you accomplish the goal you set forth. I can’t recall ever completing a new years resolution.

Although, I don’t actually make specific resolutions any more, I do have a tendency to say things like;

Wait 'til next year, they won’t know who I am…..

I'm not doing this or that for nobody next year, they might as well not even ask……

I’m going to take better care of me next year…. Whatever that means…….

I do remember that one year I tried to lose weight, hahaha, big joke. I start off with a certain diet plan and about two weeks in, I say that I ain’t lost anything yet, or I’m tired of eating this way. So, no dieting the rest of the year.

There’s another year I said I would quit smoking. Just like the norm, I stopped for a few days & felt like I couldn’t live without my cigarettes. This is something I have tried numerous times, not just as a new year’s resolution and the longest I ever went was about 3 months.

One of my favorites is, I’m going to start saving money at the beginning of the year so when Christmas rolls around, I’ll be able to buy gifts without the stress. That’s another big laugh. It seems like just when you think you’re on a roll and you’ve been doing good for a couple of months along comes some reason to take you off track & you never make it to even June much less Christmas.

As close as I come to dieting now is when I Fast for three weeks in January, that’s a religious thing. I don’t even try to quit smoking anymore and truly if the price of a pack of cigarettes isn’t enough to make anyone stop smoking, than what is.

Saving money, (what’s that?) I would probably do this if I had the money to do it. But since I live paycheck to paycheck, it’s really hard to squeeze out that little extra. Right now in the way of savings is my participation here on Hive with the ‘Saturday Savers Club’. Last year I just grew my crypto a little but this year I’m also saving in my currency of USD, using the 365 Compound a Penny plan. It’s working so far but I’m just 5 weeks in. The amounts are small right now, but they grow bigger every day.

For me, New Years’ resolutions are a thing of the past. I feel it’s just a silly promise that I’ve yet to see someone keep. So, I no longer even bother to make a New Years’ resolution. I just live life & make only short term promises that I can keep.

I know how you feel with the goal setting and new years resolutions. I am trying to lose some weight but it isn't working so far! !LOL

I am interested to see how your compound a penny works, its sounds like a good system that should be doable.

I don't mind goals, as we do on Hive but I totally miss the point in resolutions.

I found that the key to losing weight is knowing what's causing you to gain weight. Like many years ago, I removed carbohydrates from my diet and lost weight, and when I slowly put them back in my diet I didn't blow back up. Carbs are your pastas, potatoes, rice, breads, beans, milk, popcorn, cookies, soft drinks, corn, and pie just to name a few. You find them in sugars, fibers, and starches. These were all things I ate tons of every day.
I used to do book reviews and read many diet books. These books helped me to understand the saying "you are what you eat". So give it a try, take away the source of what you eat the most and when you see a difference in your weight, make a controlled plan to enjoy something from that group like once a week or once every two weeks. It's just a matter of discipline & control. A little exercise wouldn't hurt either. Did you know that you can lose some of your stomach just by walking?

The compound a penny is from Saturday savers club, so it should work really great. I'm afraid that when I get to the point where it's more than $5 a week, how will I manage it. That's a lot of money for someone with no income. But' I'll just have to wait & see.

Thanks for the great tips. I do try to limit my wheat intake but will do a more detailed check and see how I get on. More exercise is also a really good one, not skipping any sessions. I will do my best. !PIZZA !LOL

I don't believe in New Year's resolutions either. It's not even the end of the month when most of them have gone down the tubes. So why do them, right?
Now as for saving, more of a new year's resolution, I feel it is something I should try to do. And like you, I am trying it on Hive with the Saturday Savers Club.
Thank you for joining the BOM! :)

Well I love your bluntness and honesty :D

I can't plan further than a bit ahead and am only learning what a plan even is at the age of almost 52! Hear you in full.

I think when you're treading water, though, it makes it hard to focus and keep things consistent to make changes. Honestly. Survival mode is what it is.

I read somewhere small changes lead to bigger ones so I try to do that now. One small change... don't smoke that first cigarette of the day for example. Skip it. Have the next one a bit later. Start small and build on things.

But I stop and start that particular addiction as well. It's an insidious stupid awful one and it's linked to so many things... I think that's why it's a tough one to crack.

As for the eating... I just cut out refined sugar to start. And went from there. And when I fall off the wagon I don't beat myself up anymore. I just start again :D

Resolutions. I also stopped making them until this very recent NY eve. And guess what? They happened! Something has shifted around here and I'll share more as I go. Perhaps it's just setting intentions that encourages the shift... who knows.

Have a beautiful day and start to the week!

I like that, never thought of it & you may be right....who knows?

You're still a young man with much life ahead. You're only as old as you feel.

I've gotten to the point that I don't even try to quit anymore. One time I quit when I was in my late 20's for 9 long years & was stupid enough to start again.

Ah... I always say it's easy to quit something. It's the staying stopped that's the tricky part :/

I'm an almost 52 (I think - maybe 53 but I've stopped counting!) woman - but fluid so man works for me too! :D

Yep. Honest and direct is the best way to be!

Have a beautiful day 😊🌸
