My whisky collection has grown

avatar

Since I started this community I have gone from having a couple of bottles up to six, mainly thanks to gifts. I like it when people surprise me with something I might not have bought for myself. You may notice some are getting a bit low. The Cardhu is almost gone.

Family portrait

Tonight I am having the Glengoyne. They say they are the slowest whisky distillers, which I assume affects the flavour.

Glengoyne

They claim it has tastes of toffee apples, ginger, shortbread and a hint of spice.

Label

I will say it is certainly a rich taste with a lot going on. My palate is not sensitive enough to pick all those out. I find it slightly 'chewy', in a good way. I am drinking it neat today to get the full experience and it is not overwhelming.

Glass

The colour changes according to the light. In some other photos it looked much lighter. Can you guess what I was up to this evening?

Cheers!

I was just thinking about some of the post that I would like to do under this topic. I am going to try to do a few post that are related to this topic and yet help people to do a tasting, but first I have to get through the month of January. I am taking the month off from drinking.

That's fair enough. I welcome any hints and suggestions to enhance the drinking experience.

Do you prefer Irish whiskey or Scotch or other?
I generally don't like Scotch because of the peat. I can't get behind that taste. Glenlivet is good though.

Looks like you are playing splinterlands to me or editing music.

I've not tried much Irish whiskey, so I can't say which I prefer. I do like a lot of the Scotch I've tried.

I had been doing my Splinterlands daily quest.

I see. Irish basically just doesn't have that smokey leather, peat flavor.

Very informative. We had a gorgeous 20 year old drink last weekend that my dad had for his 80th birthday last year. It was beautiful!

I expect that was something special. I hope your dad enjoyed it too.

hi @steevc, .. nice collection, .. got to say my personal favorite out of all these has to be the Glengoyne then comes the Glenfiddich 15. Probably my least favorite is the black bottle. ill defo have to get you a glen cairn glass for any next meeting though!

Looking good! You have a nice bottle collection started there! Still looks like you need to add some bourbons to your collection though! I guess I shouldn't really be criticizing because right now I only have one scotch in my collection!

I'm not sure I'll keep the bottles as they take up a lot of room. I'll have the pictures anyway. We have a load of different gins too, but I don't drink that very often.

My buddy has a friend who makes lamps out of old bottles. I wouldn't do it for just any bottle, but if it was a cool bottle I would do it. I actually have one from a bottle I bought in Ohio. I keep meaning to take a picture of it.

Nice collection!! I would definitely share a glass of that 15 yr Glen with ya. 😁 My collection has both grown and diminished over the years. lol. Love trying new things. @bozz gave out some sample bottles out of his collection to friends this year for Christmas. I thought that was an awesome idea and one I may steal from him next year!

The Glenlivit on the far right.. is that their Founder's Reserve? I saw a bottle of that the other day and almost bought it. If it is.. How is it? Should I go back and buy it?

My collection.. Missing a few since I took this shot a year ago.

Nice. I like the Glenlivet. I tried some at a bar recently and wanted more. Like any some of collecting it can become an obsession, but it could get expensive. I can only drink so much.

Amen to that! I try NOT to add up the money spent. I just call it mental health money. 😆
