Morning Run: Reclaiming my crown

(Edited)

I am going into work a couple of days each week now and that leaves a bit less time for running. Mind you, when I go in I do a lot of walking and climb a lot of stairs, so I get a workout anyway. Today I was back to running.

Selfie

Last night I was at a pub music session. Only six of us there, but it was really good fun, even when I messed up some songs. We were cosy there by the fire. @todayslight is on the left. On Sunday I was playing outdoors at an open mic. See this post by @daniellemurray for one of the tunes.

Pub

I had an email from Strava to say I had lost my Local Legend status on the hill I do as a workout. It has been a few weeks since I did that. It was cool out there, but not too bad. I did my usual workout of jogging to West Drive and then running up it five times.

Segments

You can see I became Local Legend again on the second climb. It is based on how many times you do a segment in the last ninety days. I was very happy with some of my times. I felt I could push a bit harder to keep the pace up all the way, but I was flagging a bit by the last one. That six metre climb makes it hard. I just jogged down each time.

Route

I have run this route many times. I took it easy on the way back, but took some back streets to extend the distance a little.

Run free and stay well.

Whoever is directly controlling the V2K told me to kill myself.
They told me if I killed myself now it would save the lives of countless others.
Saying the longer I wait to kill myself the more people will suffer.

They are reckless and should have shown the proper media what they had before taking me hostage for 5 years. I know there are many in prison that dont deserve to be there because of this. Your stay in prison will not be fun @battleaxe and friends. People are going to want you dead when they find out what you did. I hope you die a slow painful death. You sick mother fuckers.

Its a terrorist act on American soil while some say its not real or Im a mental case. Many know its real. This is an ignored detrimental to humanity domestic and foreign threat. Ask informed soldiers in the American military what their oath is and tell them about the day you asked me why. Nobody has I guess. Maybe someone told ill informed soldiers they cant protect America from military leaders in control with ill intent. How do we protect locked up soldiers from telling the truth?

So there were only six of you in the pub total or only six of you playing that night? I can't imagine a bar around here only having six people in it. Another question. Are most of the pubs over there just houses that they turned into pubs or are they pubs that they tried to make look like houses?

Some pubs were purpose built. I suspect this was originally a house. It has been modified a lot by the current landlord, but the building is quite old. Seems it has been a pub for about 170 years.

There were others in the pub when we started, but by the end it was just us and the barmaid. She was requesting songs for us to play. I do wonder how some pubs make money when they are so empty. A few people buying a couple of drinks each will not cover costs. Hundreds of pubs are closing each year around the country. The one near me just spent a lot on re-decorating, so they must have hopes of doing well. We used to play there, but the previous owners decided they would rather fit in more tables to serve food as that makes them more money.

Wow, 170 years, that is pretty awesome. I just think it is funny because from the pictures you would think you were sitting in someones living room. Everything over here is so commercial looking on the inside.

A lot of old pubs here look like someone's living room. There's a certain traditional 'pub style' you see a lot. We get some more commercial modern bars too. It may depend on what customers they want to attract. Younger people may prefer something 'trendy'. I do dislike it when there's loud music, but people are there to talk rather than dance. I must be old :)

I guess we are both getting old. I like music, but I like being able to follow conversations too. Most of the bars over here don't have as comfortable of seats as those look!

Maybe we need some posts about pubs and bars so people can see how they vary around the world. In some of these places you can almost feel like you are at home.

That could be pretty cool. They could also use @pinmapple with it to get them on the map for other people to see.

In Old English, an ealuhús was a hús where you could get ealu measured into your ealo-wǽge from an ealu-faet and get totally ealo-gál sitting on an ealo-benc listening to the ealu-scop sing/recite poetry. The whole thing was known as gebeórscipe (beeriness? convivial cheer with beer). Waes hael!

Those census data are fascinating: you can imagine the history of the family and their lodgers. A ten-year-old agricultural labourer in 1861!

Life was tough back then. We have looked into some of our family and some of the kids died very young. They needed to be out earning as soon as possible.

I just try to fit it into my day. I will run at least 3 times per week anyway. I did years of really early mornings, so I quite like getting up a bit later now. I think I'll be doing some working from home for a while yet.

Running is a great exercise for physical and mental health. Keep it up!
Great that you had a good time at the Pub's music session.

Ah yes, you've gotta love those hill repeats @steevc
Always a great little (or not so little) workout, and a great way to claim turf on strava 😂

Strava's competitive spirit is just so addictive. I love and hate it at the same time. I love going for KOMs and analyzing my data, but at the same time it ruined our cycling group; nobody wants to go for a chill ride anymore.

We shouldn't forget what these activities are really about. I am not always thinking about beating my Strava records when I run, but it's nice when I do. I know I'm unlikely to be the quickest at anything.

It's always nice when we beat the times, especially when we get one of those KOM.

Cheers for the beer!

I know I say this every time, but your consistency on per km speed is really impressive to me. I seem to be all over the place on my runs but then again, I don't have a sport watch so I don't actually know my pace until after I am done.

I tend to run by feel, but I do have the option of checking my pace on the watch too. Before I had the watch I still had the app giving me audio updates on my pace. I am pretty happy with how I do. I think it's just important to keep getting out there every week.

for sure. I am once again in a "rebuilding" stage as far as running is concerned but I'm actually kind of looking forward to the challenge.
