The News

The main topic for the last week has been about Elon Musk taking over Twitter. It is not clear exactly what difference that could make, but many people are talking about moving to other platforms. For some that includes Mastodon, but we should be suggesting Hive as an option. Most have still not heard of it and so may not realise they could be earning from their online activities.

The crypto prices continue to be volatile with someone spending a lot on a certain non-decentralised coin.

Prices

Over on Sourceforge the various blockchains are dicing it out for the best reviews. You can actually get paid for leaving reviews, but you may need to log in for that. I have had about $20 from them that I could cash out in various vouchers.

Considering how small the Blurt community is they were doing well on that chart. There are a few refugees from Hive how feel that downvotes are evil. They are delighted that a big account is countering what @themarkymark votes on lately. He has helped deal with a lot of abuse and supports many people. He may need to change his strategy so that bystanders do not get badly affected by all this. Being a big Hive account does give you a lot of power, but also pressure unless you choose to not socialise. People are free to be trolls on Hive, but that is hard to control without compromising our freedoms. The platform should not limit how we act.

Friday Follows

  • You may have seen that I won a raffle from @drwatson to be drawn by the artist of the comic he is working on. That comic has a Kickstarter campaign for the next issues that ends fairly soon. You may want to support that. I am using some of my Hive earnings to get myself physical editions.
  • Some of the @filmmaking4hive team were on Cryptomaniacs this week. This is a really cool project.
  • @basilmarples is part of the film making team and is keeping up a routine of daily posts with stuff he is thinking about as well as updates on his Splinterlands battles.
  • @bbphotography had another account here, but lost his keys. He is back with some nice photography.

The Doghouse

This doggie doo-doo is really fresh. My friend @slobberchops did a post about his experiments programming Hive with Python scripts. Someone immedfiately copied the post. Their reputation is going to crash as they are guaranteed downvotes. This is lazy and dishonest.

If you see abuse then please report it to someone. We want rewards to go those those who earn them.

The End

I will be doing another #BritList next weekend. A few people have been inactive for a while, so you may want to give some friends a hint that they should visit Hive now and then. All they need is one vote per month to be shown as active on the list. The can easily set up some automatic votes to spread rewards and earn from curation.

It is the long Mayday weekend here in the UK, so enjoy what time off you get.

Hive five!

Whoever is directly controlling the V2K told me to kill myself.
They told me if I killed myself now it would save the lives of countless others.
Saying the longer I wait to kill myself the more people will suffer.

They are reckless and should have shown the proper media what they had before taking me hostage for 5 years. I know there are many in prison that dont deserve to be there because of this. Your stay in prison will not be fun @battleaxe and friends. People are going to want you dead when they find out what you did. I hope you die a slow painful death. You sick mother fuckers.

Its a terrorist act on American soil while some say its not real or Im a mental case. Many know its real. This is an ignored detrimental to humanity domestic and foreign threat. Ask informed soldiers in the American military what their oath is and tell them about the day you asked me why. Nobody has I guess. Maybe someone told ill informed soldiers they cant protect America from military leaders in control with ill intent. How do we protect locked up soldiers from telling the truth?

Talk about blatant! Now I have seen it all 😃. No word from @bettyayers as yet. I am quite sure it's not a little old grandma taking a break from her knitting.

Very obvious when they leave the @ mentions in there. I see they have gone negative already.

It was always going to happen.

I read a lot of posts on twitter about Elon Musk as "new owner" of twitter, but I think the best was the one that in English sounds like "Even if we are all talking about it, for the most part of users, there will be no differences from an Elon Musk and an another dude". At the end, for me, nothing will change: for sure the best place is Hive :D

Musk likes to mess with people. He may not even be allowed to do some of the things he would want to.

Ooh, it is pretty rare that I get to downvote anyone. I will have to go over there and check that one out. Blurt wasn't and still isn't anything special. Most of the people I see supporting it are also claiming some other outlandish things. Really grasping for straws.

Some of the people who went there seem to have some serious issues. I don't want to drive people away from Hive if I can avoid it. Downvote is just a tool (in the traditional sense) to adjust rewards. I use it when I see it as necessary to do some good.

I always get confused when some of these flag wars pop up. I think sometimes the "offender" makes some good points. As far as a Hive cabal, I don't know so much about that. I think there is a group of influential people, but for the most part I feel they are doing their best to keep the blockchain as fair as possible.

Sometimes there is overreaction on both sides. Attacking people who care about Hive does their case no good. I would rather persuade someone to change their ways than have them leave and spread bad vibes.

(Edited)

For some that includes Mastodon,...

I've been seeing tweets about the Fediverse and Mastodon as well. Like most news, people tend to have an extreme whiplash reaction. No one actually knows what will come from the buyout/privatize Twitter news. At this point it is all wild speculation on all sides. As for me, I'm going to keep on keeping on.

...but we should be suggesting Hive as an option.

Agreed. This suggestion includes a whole lot of education. I see @shadowspub has an educational series which is a great intro to Hive. I know you also have a pinned post about your Hive experience. The more folks on Hive who create the Hive 101/Hive Basics/Getting to know Hive type posts, podcasts, videos, etc the easier it will be for folks to learn about Hive and why we think it's the cat's meow.

There's a lot of bad feeling about crypto even in the open source community where some dismiss it all as bad. I think Hive counters some of the arguments about excessive energy usage and 'ponzi' schemes.

We have plenty of people doing good educational posts and making nice videos/GIFs. We just need some marketing that reaches the right audience to attract some influential people.

What happens if you're inactive, Steve? Curious about that point.. 🙂

If you are not voting then:

  • You make nothing from curation
  • You are not helping to distribute to rewards
  • If you are in the UK you reduce my active user count on the BritList if you are not posting either

People can set up auto votes even if they are not actively using Hive. Or they can put their funds in HBD savings to earn.
