The News

For a change I have just charted the last week of crypto prices using the Coingecko API and you can see there is very little change apart from $SBD which seems to get a lot of speculation despite lack of utility. $HIVE is edging up a little, but it has been around 50c for a while now. $HBD is very solid at the $1 peg.

Prices

Important news this week was official support of Hive on Ledger hardware wallets. I think I need to look into this more.

There used to be a Q&A dapp on Hive called Quello that is coming back as Reverio. They will have their own layer 2 token. Follow @reverio for updates.

There is an epic video from @scottcbusiness that covers hundreds of blockchain and related social social media platforms. I only knew about a few of them. He talks about which are worth bothering with and Hive comes out as a clear winner. He admits that he posts to multiple platforms as he wants to reach the widest possible audience.

It seems a lot of people are getting disillusioned with Twitter and other corporate platforms. We need to make them aware of Hive. It could be useful to many of them.

Friday Follows

  • I found a few more people in the UK to include in the #BritList that I will produce tomorrow. @soundtopia is a musician from Scotland and @dcrvx1000r is aiming to be a full time climber.
  • I have mentioned @sidekickmatt a few times in these posts and I posted yesterday about buying his book. He is one of a number of artists posting comics on Hive. We all need a laugh, so you may want to follow him to get his work in your feed.
  • @epodcaster started #NaPodPoMo which is about producing a podcast for each day of November. I did this last year, but may not this time. Other people are joining in with it.
  • @deadspace is putting out some cool guitar videos and I just saw @andrewmusic has a new guitar.

These people get a share of the post rewards.

The Doghouse

I will not name names, but I saw an established account getting into a bit of a fight with a witness after receiving some downvotes. I think the witness thought they were over-shilling some NFTs, but I did not delve too deeply. Our rewards cannot be taken for granted and someone may think that yours are not deserved. Sending abuse at a big account and mass tagging people to try and get their support is not likely to do you much good. You have to decide which fights to pick. In a lot of these cases the big account will not be intending to downvote everything you do, but if you piss them off then they may. That does not mean we have to suck up to whales, but personal attacks are generally a bad idea. Behind each account is a person and we each have our own opinions. There is the issue that downvotes can get magnified when people follow trails, so they need to be used with care.

I have seen some who use very nasty language get downvoted to negative reputation and then all their comments are hidden by default. You are free to say what you want on Hive, but others do not have to put up with it. I have seen Elon Musk describe himself as a 'free speech absolutist', but will that include threats, obscenity and other other abuse that can be illegal in some countries? We shall see.

The End

We are fast approaching the end of the year. Did you have some crypto goals for 2022 and are you going to achieve them? I feel I am doing okay on Hive and that is my main platform. I am getting into some of the various passive earning options, but Hive Power is still my priority as I can use that to help others.

My kids are not into blogging, but will make them aware of how they could earn on Hive. It is up to them what they do with it. Young people who invest now could really benefit in the long term.

Hive five!

Great post Steve, just found myself opening your links in new tabs to have a look at later. Could almost do with a feature in Chrome were you click on "remind me another time" and in the welcome page, it could list those items there, I really could do with something like that but anyway.... I digress.

Twitter, don't start me, I know someone, maybe more than that who've lost their jobs after many years loyal service. I think they will get payouts though but nonetheless, it's all rather mad. I am going to potentially do a post on the topic of where next and to be honest, those roads all lead here. I have been tinkering with Substack though and interested in Mastodon.

Hive goals for this year, make 1000HP and I've done that, so setting some for next year are very much in order.

Have a great weekend.

I expect there must be browser extensions to make a 'read later' link list. I used to use something called 'Delicious' to save links with tags, but it got bought and shut down.

I am on Mastodon, but am trying to resist getting sucked in too much. I had an account before, but the instance shut down. That is one weakness of the platform. I would rather more people came over to Hive, but persuading them is hard.

Have fun!

It would be a lot easier if everyone came here. No doubt!

I love a bit of doghouse action. I actually think the trouble was triggered indirectly(directly??) from the guy who tried to start what looked to be a vote selling scheme and when this guy saw the downvotes he got it sent him over the edge. Always a silly move

Some people don't like anything that looks remotely like vote selling, but where do you draw the line? I get some small DVs that I just ignore. If I made $50+ on a post then someone might decide to reduce that a bit, but that's how it goes here.

Yes indeed. Downvotes are part of the system. People need to learn that but instead choose to freak out

I've always hated the downvote feature. Very rarely is it necessary and most of the times a blatant abuse of power. To continuously downvote someone regardless of what they post is being a bully imo

What's the alternative? We need ways to control abuse. We happen to have some opinionated people with a lot of power and they get to use it as they want. I've had posts flagged to nothing before, but then I have also earned well at other times. Hive is the wild west.

I don't have a answer or alternative.. I only have opinions.

Yeah, we all have those :) There's no perfect system, but Hive is the best platform I've been on so far.

You must have not seen the news story about the use of the N word on Twitter going up by a significant percentage after the deal was finalized. Not Elon's fault per say, but people are definitely testing the free speech bit.

Being abusive for its own sake is just dumb. Twitter could become a less friendly place to be. As it is I know a lot of people get constant abuse, especially if they are not a straight, white male. We may not see what is going on.

Thanks for these posts where you relate different coins. I am also surprised by the value of the SBD, I do not explain it at all. HBD is acting like a big stablecoin. I don't understand why in coinmarketcap it is only in 3917th place. I think many would have preferred to have put their money in HBD than in UST. I also know Scottbusiness, I see his videos from time to time, he is an expert in blockchain-based social platforms and he is speaking well of HIVE
