Valencia

Last Friday I arrived in Valencia and it turned out to be one of the most vibrant trips I have ever experienced. The city was already deep into the atmosphere of the famous Fallas Festival, which meant that from the moment I stepped into the streets there was energy everywhere. Music, fireworks, parades, people celebrating at all hours, and the smell of food being cooked outdoors created an atmosphere that felt like one huge citywide party.

One of the most impressive parts of the experience was the constant activity in the streets. Every neighborhood seemed to have something happening. Large artistic sculptures were standing on the corners, marching bands were passing by, and crowds were gathering for the parades. At night the fireworks were spectacular. The sound echoed across the city and people filled the plazas to watch the sky light up. It felt like the celebration never stopped.

Food was also a huge part of the experience. During the festival, huge pans of paella were being cooked directly in the streets. The smell of rice, saffron, seafood, and meat filled the air everywhere you walked. Seeing locals prepare these massive pans while people gathered around was something special because it showed how central food is to the culture of the city.

I also visited the incredible City of Arts and Sciences, which was easily one of the architectural highlights of the trip. The futuristic buildings look almost unreal, like something from another planet. Inside the complex I spent time at the famous L'Oceanogràfic, the largest oceanarium in Europe. Walking through the underwater tunnels surrounded by sharks, rays, and large schools of fish was unforgettable. The dolphin show was another highlight. Watching the dolphins perform with such intelligence and precision was fascinating and the crowd loved every moment of it.

I also explored several other monuments and historical spots around the city, which gave me a sense of Valencia's long history and culture. The combination of historic architecture and modern design made the city feel unique.

The weather added an interesting twist to the trip. The first three days were quite rainy, which made wandering around the streets a bit more challenging. However the rain also gave the city a dramatic atmosphere, especially at night with the festival lights reflecting on the wet streets. Then on the final day the sun finally came out and the city looked completely different. Suddenly everything felt brighter and more alive.

One of the best food experiences of the trip was eating an authentic paella at a local restaurant. It was easily the best paella I have ever tasted. The rice was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I also visited the famous Central Market of Valencia where I tried several tapas along with some amazing chorizo. Walking through the market stalls full of fresh ingredients, meats, cheeses, and spices was an experience on its own.

Overall this trip to Valencia during the Fallas festival was unforgettable. Between the celebrations, the food, the architecture, and the energy of the city, it felt like a place that truly knows how to live and celebrate life. It is definitely a destination I would love to visit again. 🎆🌍🍲
