Recycling Center Diary August 2025

I made a run to the recycling center. This time I focused on aluminum. This might be the largest aluminum score.

18.90 lbs worth of aluminum cans.
14.50 lbs worth of plaatic.

Plastic is easy enough. I don’t mind collecting that.

I hate collecting glass.

Group photo!

My friends are so silly.

Here there are junkmen collect them in the streets in return of money, but I think if you sell them in the center, it is more profitable :)

I had a practice of collecting while I walked down the street. I called it exercise.
I don’t know anywhere you can resell them/get reimbursed other than the recycling center. I think that’s part of the control mechanism. I don’t know if anything I could refer to as “the center” and a place to sell recyclables. They have large set ups like the one I go to and they have small shipping container size outlets at the grocery store parking lot. So in the comments mentioned a machine and I don’t think I have seen that yet. (something unguarded like a recycling machine would probably get fuct fast)

I'm not sure we can get paid for smaller quantities of cans in the UK, but in places like Germany I've seen people checking rubbish bins with torches. They have machines in supermarkets where you can feed in bottles and cans to get cash or vouchers. I expect their recycling rates are better than ours.

Scavengers here also. The rates are on my receipt. I’ll look for UK scavenger videos. 😁
