Bass In This Big Band Concert March 29 2022

It's the big day for a big band performance. It's the next day after the rehearsal featured in this post here: . The sun is out and the sky is clear.

We perform the concert. These are my thoughts regarding music, environment, and hopefully concert footage from my GoPro.

Traffic is forgotten. I usually mention it, but today it's not a bother. I'm leaving earlier. It's was less congested. Easy commute for this concert day. I'm driving the vehicle that requires the lest amount of hand usage. Speaking from experience, it's best to conserve my energy/strength.

I guess I forgot to take pictures. I remember having a bag a coffee roasted peanuts and a homemade americano. I probably had a canteen of water also.

☢️ Drummer Drama ☣️

This is a text message that I almost sent.

The final version didn't contain the part about dildo drums. It's best left for #HIVE to enjoy. #drama

My GoPro is ready 📽

I don't have many accessories. Thankfully, I have a few elbows to adjust the camera's angle. Water proof case it kinda neat, but it's going to block lots of sound. Most of the audio will be vibration from the base of the camera attached to the bass guitar's wood. I'll do my best to adjust the audio in post.

⌛️Old New Shoes Maidan Voyage! ⌛️

These might be the first VANS I have ever purchased. I purchased these shoes and never used them. I saved them for unknown special occasion because I didn't want the black to rub off too soon.

Under the black of the shoes that we can see now is a blue coloring. It's a unique feature to the shoes. When I purchased them back in December 2021, wanted I wanted simple, discrete, and black shoes.

These are desigened to have a cool blue color under the black. I don't want to see that yet. I want a comfortable ghetto stage shoe to stay black for as long as possible.

Concert ☀️ 🌬

The concert is outside in the wind.

We are down in a fancy drain ditch. It reminds me of the WW2 Memorial and the Vietnam Memorial. Don't walk on the grass. It's probably soggy.

The wind travels down into our stage ditch area and sends music flying around. The drummer's music stand actually blew over in the wind. The drum book went flying and the music spewed out. Fellow musicians made sounds of agony and I quickly ran out of hands.

My Bruce Lee-like rescue style of the past was nothing compared to this organizational onslaught. The elder musicians knew better. They knew it was better to sit and enjoy the rare sight of hundreds of sheets of music flying through the sky. After much profanity, I stopped frozen and simply enjoyed the moment too.

When the wind died out, several players helped collect the music. They spoke to each other for the sake of organizing the music. Everyone knows the drummers have enough to deal with. Everyone helped put the drum book back together. It may have been a bonding event. However, nothing in the wind can help a musician with bad pulse and inexperience.

BASS ❤️‍🔥

I use my regular bass amp instead of the school's. I like the school amp. I suggested it to the previous director and he purchased it. It's been great. I opted to use my bass amp because it has a satellite.

I can place the main part of my bass amp next to me. It's like a bass monitor for me and musicians one side of the stage. The musicians on the other side of the stage or (it's a big band, remember?) get the pleasure of hearing bass clearly through the satellite speaker.

BEST STICKER EVER 🤩

I put this sticker here on the hand dryer last year.

Eventually, I get home and do some research and stumbling. I think it was the last concert we played in November... that was when I was last in that bathroom to place the sticker.

Video Production Lessons Learned:

• get open GoPro case to improve audio,
• stop recording between songs so that each file is a separate song,
• level the camera. (put bass on the left, not the bottom)

Sunset 🧻

The illusion of a happy ending is real. I know it's going to take me too long to edit the video. I know other dramas await.

Ahh, the freeway. It's so beautiful and soft and friendly... LOL, yeah right!!! It's NOT.

Next Monday is off. I'll look forward to the break.
