When Weekends Turn into Workdays: The Struggle to Balance Priorities

month of love (1).jpg

This weekend has been one of the busiest, even more so than my weekday. The weekend is meant to be when we get the opportunity to rest from the busy week, but mine seems to turn into the day when I am most busy.

The Journey Through the Weekend

This week, I had planned a video to wish everyone a happy new month to be published on my other account, @iam-gifted, but I have not had the time to edit that video since I shot it on February 1st. February 1st happened to be a Thursday, and the video was shot on the night of that day. I would have dedicated the night to editing the video, but a lecturer fixed class on Friday morning, and it was giving the vibe that there would be a potential test for the class.

I had two options, which were to either read and prepare for the potential test or edit the video, risking going for the test with an empty brain. On my list of priorities for this year, school is on high order, and I want to make sure I finish well. So I made the decision to drop the edit and prepare for the test.

When I left for school on Friday, I had only planned to spend not more than 4 hours in school and then come back home to finish all that I needed to finish, but another thing came up in school that made me spend the whole day at school. I had to work on my project report with my colleagues; it was already urgent and needed to be reviewed by my supervisor. My project supervisor has decided not to call on us and leave us because we have failed to deliver our report for over a month. My post data is in 11 days, and yet my report and slides are not yet ready. This was what delayed me in school until I got home by 7 p.m.

Stress at its Peak

After getting home by 7 p.m., I had to freshen up to leave for church for an all-night rehearsal. I already knew that editing the video would not be possible again that Friday, as there would be no way that I would have the chance to brainstorm on how my video would be edited. I ended up spending most of the night rehearsing at church and went to bed by 3 a.m. Saturday morning.

Another rehearsal was also scheduled for Saturday at 10 p.m. So I had to wake up by 7 a.m. to edit my video a little before I started having some issues with my stomach and started going up and down the toilet. Before I knew it, it was 10 a.m., and I could not do much on the video and also had not gotten enough sleep. The Saturday rehearsal was long and lasted until 3 p.m. in the afternoon before we ended the rehearsal.

I got home to attend a meeting by 4 p.m., which lasted for about an hour plus thereafter. I had to take my bath, brush, and look for something to eat as I was very hungry. Right now that I am done eating, I am left with different options as I have about two pending tasks to do with their deadline today, aside from the video I want to edit. If I don't edit the video today, I most likely will not have the time to edit it until tomorrow afternoon.

With the way my activities are being set up, I hope I don't end up pushing away important tasks. I would just have to follow the path of doing the task that has the most influence on my life and my future first and weighing them based on their urgency and importance.

I read read waiting for the part you edited the video but the more I keep reading, the more unforseen tasks keeps coming in and shifted the video editing forward.
Final year can be so demanding and yeah school is your main priority.
I just hope you get your free time to edit and rest because rest is not even in this schedule.
Well done champ
