VALUE IS RELATIVE || OUR VALUE DEPENDS ON WHERE WE FIND OURSELVES

avatar

Value is relative, and so is the way people see our worth. Everyone has a different way of valuing a substance; this is determined by how important that substance is or by knowing how useful such a substance can be.

20220714_161936_0000.png

A substance, for instance, a drink, can have different values depending on the location you find the drink. Let's take Coca-Cola, for instance, in Nigeria Coca-Cola is about $0.3, but in the United States, it is about $2. We can see that the value of Coca-Cola differs from when it is in Nigeria to when it is in the US.

I would like you to imagine the scenario as one trying to sell cooked meat in a town full of vegetarians. I bet that the seller may not sell at all or may likely sell it for a very cheap price, since it is in an environment where eating meat is not appreciated.

What does this tell us? We should not feel bad if the people around us do not see our value and do not place us as important. It is only because we are not in the right environment.

Also, we should also try to be of value to our environment. Sometimes one maybe too focused on building a skill that has no importance or effect on the environment, which would later be of no use because we have no way to make value from it. So it is best to identify problems in your immediate environment and how best they can be solved. Doing this would make you a valuable person in the environment.

I completely agree with this.
Absolutely spot on.

Its all about demand.

This makes me remember a story I heard some years ago.

Two shoe makers travel to a new territory in search of sales and new customers. When the first shoe maker got to the new site he saw that no one wore slippers, he felt bad and left, believing he wouldn't make any sale. The other shoemaker came and met the same situation and yelled in excitement.

He went back home to bring more slippers and footwear because he believed they needed it.

(Omo, I don write mini post for here) 🤣🤣

Smiles.. Seems the second shoe maker has an idea to convince the town that slippers are of importance. If he can convince one person, then more people would come!

You went to far into another country. Taking bottle water as a case study, a bottle water on the street might be #100. The same water in most shops can be #150 and in some hotels like #500 same brand of water.

In other words, your value depends on where you stay or where you might find yourself. So guys, try to explore and go places only then can you add value to your yourself and craft.

In your hand work, you can't charge people in a local setting the same amount you will charge those in a civilized setting even though your service is good, they will always undervalue it.

Aim higher....

Smiles... The bottle water is a good example... Lol you remember that day at the beach, our meetup that you wanted to buy bottle water 😅😂.

Yeah, our skills are not helpful if we are in the wrong environment so we all need to find where we would be useful.

Thanks for the addition brother!

Once again you've brought up something that is affecting almost every single person if not all of us.

Like you've rightly said, we should not feel bad when we are not valued, it only means we are not in the right environment.

Recently we relocated to a new environment and prior to now, my brother always love leading in songs but where we came from, there are so many good song leaders so he was not valued, in fact he was told he was not yet worthy.

Luckily for us, we moved to a place where we had to worship with a congregation where there are just few members so they noticed my brother knows how to sing and he was asked to lead in songs one of the Sundays and he did so well and they a were all so happy with him and they pleaded with him to always come so he can be helping out in that aspect.

Now why I'm I saying all this, my brother was never encouraged in our former congregation but just two weeks of worshipping with another congregation, he was accepted and encouraged to keep doing what he is good at and that has motivated him to always make sure to improve on himself.

All this really proves that the environment we are really contributes to how well we are valued.

Thank you for bringing this to us Star, I always appreciate it.

Yeah exactly! There was lots of competition in your former place I guess. So that's why they never looked at your brother's side.

Trying, location determines how much we are valued.

Looks like it's everybody in your family that knows how to sing.

Yes that's what it was.

I'm really happy we moved from that place.

My brother is even better than me by far 😅.

You just dished out a valuable lesson, I agree with the fact that value is relative.

For me, it is either you find where you are valuable or just develop yourself in what your immediate environment needs. A lot of people define value wrongly and that's why many of us don't know how to improve it, we usually think it is money but we are wrong.

Value has to do with what we can offer.

Exactly! We have options, change location or find how to make yourself useful in your immediate environment.

Hmm... Value has to do with what with can offer

Hmm.. that's true! Money comes along the way when we have something to offer.

Something called value added tax just comes to mind, this is why some things vary in prices in other countries. A friend migrated to the UK lately and wanted to get some crocks slipon, bro was told it was worth a lot more than he ll get in in Nigeria. To some extent the way things are valued depends on the general cost of production and the other benefits gotten along side. If you get AC while taking coke, you ll have to pay for the light bills as well. Same applies btw taxi and Uber in Lagos.

Add value to yourself and watch ppl pay for it. Don't be stagnant

So much importance is placed on the word “value” . Emptiness is felt when value is absent!
