Lost and Confused: Should I Move or Stay Put?

Lost and Confused.jpg

Yesterday, I was in a lot of thought, lost in thought, and confused about the matter of leaving my present apartment and opting in for the expensive apartments out there or staying and enduring the hardship at my current apartment. It would have been a very easy decision to make if I did not have quite a lot of expenses that await me now and in the future or if I had quite a lot of money that could afford all these expenses. Aside from that, I still need money for some personal stuff too; I have been lost and don't know what action to take.

What makes staying in my present place frustrating is that I have not had water here for over a week; I have had situations up to a month of no water; and it has been a series of leaving my compound and fetching water, which is stressful and embarrassing. This has been the problem I have been facing since last year, which resulted in my head injury. I had seen a lot in this place, and remembering all that I passed through, especially with that injury, annoys me bitterly.

Checking out a new place yesterday

After class yesterday, I and a friend of mine went to check on an apartment that is closer to school compared to where I currently stay. Before we head on to the place, I had to discuss with the agent that I would like to inspect, as they do collect money for inspection, so I wanted to agree on an amount with him before he takes us to the place.

We spoke on the phone, and he said he was a little far away and that we would wait for him. Since we could not wait under the sun, I took my friend out to a restaurant close by to eat something light that I could afford, then used the opportunity to wait for the agent in the restaurant before we headed on.

The agent came around, and my friend and I went to check out the place. It is painful that I didn't take pictures when I was there; the place was giving off mixed vibes. Yeah, it was nice, but there were too many things that needed repair in the place, and it was expensive.

From what I have learned in my previous place about these caretakers, they would promise you heaven and earth, and when you moved in, they would go missing in action. I didn't want to enter such a situation again, so I took my mind off it.

Why would I stay at my current apartment?

Even with how much I don't like this place, I might end up not moving because it is stressful to move, and most of the apartments out there cost a lot more, and the difference in money can be used to solve some other minor challenges I am facing. I only hope that once the issue with water is resolved, something will not come up that would put me in such an uncomfortable situation.

I have less than a year in this school already, and by August I would be done with my final year, and by November, I would be having my convocation by God's grace.

It would have been really easy for me to move if it was something that I could easily afford without borrowing funds, and I don't want to put myself in a situation of debt while still having expenses to settle.

I feel your pain boss and I totally understand how you feel but I feel since this is a time where the expenses are choking you and you're trying to manage your funds.

I'd advice you stay back just to spend less, and then plan it well to move out next year so it doesn't look rushed and unplanned.

And you're not even sure the kind of tribulation you might come across in the new hostel, you've not stayed there before so you can really say how things might go there.

It might even end up being worst has you already stated in your post.So I agree totally with you to stay back in your previous hostel since you've got just little more time to stay over.

...resulted in my head injury.

Ah! So you sustained a head injury in the process! So sorry to hear about that.

You know the major problem about this housing of a thing isn't the yearly rent. It is the outrageous fees the agent will be charging for agreement and commission.

I have friend in Lagos who's try to secure just a single room. The rent cost 120k annually, then agreement is 90k, commission too 90k, and a caution few of 20k. Causing one to pay 320k in total. Like... who are those collecting the agreement and commission. They have just made houses rent unbearable to afford. And when issues arises just as you've said, they won't even be there to assist.

Here's an example

I'd advise you just bear with the water challenges because of the fact that you still have expenses ahead that's yet to come.

How about those Aboki's that helps with pushing truck of water? If you can still get them, try to make use of them once in a while.

This water issue can be so devastating. First I consider before moving is light and next water. Good you changed your mind on moving considering the time you have left and I hope they get the water fixed soon. These care takers don't like spending extra money at all, I remember when we were working on the house we are staying now, I asked the landlord to fix the net in the kitchen, he asked if I was going to be sleeping there. So annoying, imagine sharing same house with rat and all that and the landlord cares less about it.

Just take care and don't sustain further injury abeg

You should not put yourself in trouble of expenses if you don't afford the other place. You should manage things like water canes and other facilities if current apartment owner is not providing. Apartment life is all about management and I 'm hopeful you can make better decisions for it. Anyway, I appreciate your decisions for staying at current apartment and fighting with challenges here.

Bro.... getting an apartment now costs a fortune here in school area because these agents are getting more than they ought to. Water is essential, unavailabilty of water can be stressful but if there is a way to always get water maybe you should manage and sort things out with the landlord.
