A Step toward My Video Editing Goal In 2024
One of my goals for 2024 is to take my video editing skills seriously. I would not say that I am a professional in the field, but I know that I can be better when I begin to edit videos more. Editing videos is something I have grown to love and something I did very well using my mobile phone, but this time, I want to get better and more professional at it by advancing to using my laptop for video editing.
One of the things that I thought would hold me back from editing videos, especially this year, was my system resources. I am using 8 GB DDR4 RAM with a 256 GB SSD, which has made it a little difficult in regards to storage space and RAM space. On a normal day, my system uses approximately 6.6 GB of 7.7 GB RAM, which makes my laptop lag when I am running any video editing software including capcut.
I noticed that Da Vinci Resolve doesn’t work with my PC, even when I went to an older model as low as Da Vinci 16, but it kept crashing. I don’t know what is wrong, if it is my RAM or my system processor, which is up to 2.5 GHz.
Initially, I had thought of saving towards getting a very powerful PC, but I thought again that would be quite too much of a lot of money to do so, and instead of doing that, I thought of a cheaper alternative. Why not boost my system capabilities?
Since I believe that the issue comes from the RAM and storage, why not take it up a bit? So to do this, I decided to phone a friend who deals with computers and ask if I can get an 8GB DDR4 RAM and 512GB SSD storage to use on my laptop.
He told me this would cost me about $41, which was quite a lot of money to me. I don’t want to power down, so what was the next alternative?

I decided to sell the 768 posh tokens I had, of which I got about 153 Hive, and sold Hive for $0.359 per hive, which is approximately $55. So I have more than enough for upgrading my laptop and any other need that may arise.
Volunteering Application
In order to get motivated or boosted to edit videos more often, I applied to volunteer as a video editor for my department. I saw that this would be a way for me to start building experience while also contributing to the body.
Although I am learning this skill because I want to make some money from it, it does not have to be money all the time. This is the reason why I volunteered for this role. I hope to build relationships with people along the way and, at the same time, learn and gain experience.

Video editing is good and interesting if you have skills. I 'm also learning about it from Capcut software. I didn't have laptop hence I 'm using my Android. It also has storage issue and have problems like hanging. Sooner, I shall also find a better alternative like this. Selling posh tokens in much needed time is not a bad steps. wow you are facing issues with storage on your phone. I think you should consider clearing space on your phone but I know that can be very difficult. I hope you get a laptop soon
Posh tokens have saved my life many times and I am glad I invested in it.

I use Filmora from time to time to edit family videos and yes most of this programs take a good amount of ram, 8gb only works with small projects but once you start cutting, incerting it starts to eat ram drastically, encoding is more cpu or gpu intense, Im on my way to buy a new computer on 2024 mainly for AI and some more video editing, glad you getting that upgrade will help a lot your system when editing
Now we have two things in common. AI and video editing. Did you see my reply to your comment on my last post where I said you should try have an external computing device like the jetson nano. You would not need to worry when it comes computing or get an external graphics card for your Pc.
But truth is, if Hive becomes $1 today. I am getting myself a Macbook Pro!

I rememner when ymwe spoke about you going into video editing and how your pc is nit helping. I hope this would solve the problem of lagging and crashing.
Volunteering for a role is a good way to building up knowledge and experince. I pray you thrive so well as a video editor.
I recommend to look for external videocards that will help you with render times. Video editing is very demanding specially on hardware. You need to have some back up and no break ups system to avoid loosing hours of work. But those hours can be cut down if you also use a good render card, there are external cards for laptops that help you with the horsepower of rendering minutes of high definition video.
