Tales of the Urban Explorer: Wedgewood Memorial College House

avatar
(Edited)

We had left 'The Limes' behind and were heading almost next door to a second helping of wondrous sights, but this one looked a little more secure.

14_IMG_6329_14.jpg

@anidiotexplores had previously breached both ‘The Limes’ and ‘Estoril House’, but seemingly not this one which I don't quite understand. It could have been sealed the last time, and that is my only explanation.

16_IMG_6352_16.jpg

Looking up at a possible entry it was looking dire. This is the same scene from inside ‘Wedgewood Memorial College House' after we got inside via a different route; a little much for me, unless there's a nice handy ladder available.

17_IMG_6357_17.jpg

Some of this looked used and that's a large no-no. Guessing whether security cameras are operational or not can be just that, a pure guess. They looked a little worn but could be connected inside, and linked to an external source.

12_IMG_6327_12.jpg

If we could get on that roof, then there was access through the open window. It was tantalizingly close and yet inaccessible.

While my comrade was prowling the grounds and starting to growl, I tried the front door which obligingly opened.

18_IMG_6365_18.jpg

'Let's go, mate, we're in…', I yelled a little too loudly startling a family walking past the entrance on the far side of the herras fencing.

We were in but were also in a very small subsection. The building appeared to be cut into slices with walls barring entry into other areas that should be been connected. What a weird place this was!

5_IMG_6320_5.jpg

The keys hit me right away. If I had any insight, I could have grabbed a few and tried some of the other doors. Taking things is not on my list of 'legitimate things to do while inside an abandoned property’ so it didn’t cross my mind at the time.

'Daisy Cottage', 'Poppy Cottage', we could have done many others if we only knew where these cottages were located.

4_IMG_6319_4.jpg

I did note the ‘Estoril House’ back door key had been nicked. Someone had got in by an easy method. Still, other keys were present that I could have taken advantage of.

1_IMG_6316_1_censored.jpg

The address book looks very old; I should have taken more notice at the time. This place was making me edgy and causing us both to rush about. It looked too ‘nice’ inside for its own good.

2_IMG_6317_2_censored.jpg

An old date on the certificate but it's quite old. I have a feeling that ‘Wedgewood Memorial College House' closed its doors a lot later than the date shown in 2014.

6_IMG_6321_6.jpg

Somebody's office and not in the least vandalized. Whoever had forced that front door didn't seem in the least interested in ransacking this place. My thoughts were still on the big lad, ‘Estoril House’.

Why is anyone’s guess? Yes, there’s a nice old piano in there, but no hidden stashes of used banknotes.

7_IMG_6322_7.jpg

Well... possibly a little ransacking. There's little point in 'breaking in' and not checking out the goods. I want to emphasise, we DID NOT break in. That was some other guys.

8_IMG_6323_8.jpg

The house in the centre looks suspiciously like 'The Limes. The staff that used to slave there I guess?

9_IMG_6324_9_censored.jpg

They are very conscious about the state of water; certificates were everywhere.

10_IMG_6325_10.jpg

2015 but we are not moving very far forward. Cilla, our national treasure dead, I remember it well.

11_IMG_6326_11.jpg

The dates of this go into 2017 and once again they are obsessed with checking their water. If I had noticed at the time, I would dare to have turned on a tap and sampled this 'famous water'.

Perhaps it would endow me with a permanent 12' inch cock, or grant me immortality?

15_IMG_6351_15.jpg

The sub-section of ‘Wedgewood Memorial College House’ that we managed to access was extremely small. There was an upstairs section but it consisted only of the view shown earlier and this guy who was just sitting there doing nothing.

I found an interesting article dated the 9th September 2022 which coincides with the EXACT date we visited.

13_IMG_6328_13.jpg

The author details a ‘break-in’ at Esperanto House. This was the one making us a little nervous which we avoided, or was it? Forensics, cameras.., jeez maybe we were lucky to get away cleanly but I suspect this was the house ‘next door’ which appeared sealed.

Good timing, no thieving, no vandalism, and just photographs. Stick to the plan and there cannot be any repercussions. Hopefully, the theory will pan out.

He was waiting to donk anyone mad enough to climb up and get in the window. I dare not go too close 😀

You should have just balanced your way across that pipe! This looks like it was a pretty nice time capsule even if you weren't able to get to all areas of it. Lot's of artifacts in the small space you were able to access.

I would call it a business, that's not been wrecked. Not enough cobwebs and dust for a capsule, though 'business capsules' are a thing!

I was on edge reading this as I felt there is someone living there and keeping the place nice and tidy. Nice office desks as well

It was a tense explore. I couldn't wait to get out, you do get those uneasy feelings. The report I added in the link at the bottom collaborated my Spidey senses.

That was lucky with the door being open! I am amazed it has survived so well if left like that

The link at the bottom reports a break-in and this was it! Maybe they had not got around to sealing this one, or the burglar had been back and done this as a second job?

Heh.., it's not something I used to watch and I remember her more from Blind Date (another show I didn't watch!). She was a singer in the 60's, before my time but I know her material.

I think I remember her more from Blind Date too, I used to catch some of it from when it might have been on the TV near the times of Blockbusters and The ATeam on a Saturday. I dont remember her singing though, was before my time too.

Ironically i was flicking the TV the other day and the new blind date on one of the channels they are now doing it naked.. Cilla would be turning in her grave if she saw it. lol

The college seems not big, but there are too many keys 🙄

It's not just the house, but all the rest of them in the area. They are all owned by the same person or people. I guess this was the HQ was everything happened.

It seems like you've shared an interesting narrative about exploring abandoned buildings, especially 'Wedgewood Memorial College House' and its surroundings. Exploring abandoned places can be quite an adventure, but it's essential to respect the property and its history.

Is there anything specific you'd like to discuss or any questions you have related to your exploration or anything else?

Keys! It would be additional area to check if knows where exactly are those.

And yeah the teddy! If I where there, gonna bring that home.

I didn't want to take anything. That constitutes stealing, even if I returned them later.

Wow!... Excellent narrative @slobberchops friend, and when accompanied by the wonderful photos it is like "a trip to the recent past"... Great article, ideal for my breakfast of "granola with papayas" :)) Thanks for sharing!!!

This one was a little short. The backstory made it better I feel. If we had visited at the wrong time, it could have turned sour.

This looked like a classy explore.. No need for gas masks or smelling salts. Glad you left the keys, well one key would have been alright maybe...

First off, you have not nicked, if you put it back where you found it (the keys). Second, if you get shackled, I will vouch for your credentials as Kier Stoke Water Hygiene Compliance Service Men! LMAO!

Edit: OMG! It would have been funny as hell to leave compliance check fail date on the log sheet! hahaha.

A college of discovering old trashy buildings could be a next big thing. What do you say profesor?

Anyway, a decent looking crib. I have viewed much worse in your regular posts.

All those nice pens in that basket, and no close up shot for your stationery addicts in the audience? 😭

Are these places going to be renovated or demolished? I ask myself the question every time I see a post. In your estimation, what percentage of the places you visit will end up in rubbles?

Great exploration and you got away clean! Really looks like they just shutdown recently.
