Wednesday Walk - Lunch Break
Here is a bit of a lunch break walk for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay

First off I took a shot of my walk into the city each morning this week. Here's Monday...

And Tuesday... Still pretty much the same darkness but not too cold.

And today, warm enough to not even wear a hat.

I was hoping it would just be a gloomy foggy warm winter day today.

Then I went out for lunch... Now there is ice everywhere and a horrible wind chill. A bunch of random snow was being blown off the lower deck of the Willis Tower.

The Deloitte building had a bunch of icy snow under it. I almost slipped taking this shot. I suppose if I had slipped the shot would still look the same.

Here is a nice offset corner building with a decent little coffee place in the bottom. I mostly see U of I people going in here.

I still haven't looked up what goddess this is at the top of this building in the financial area. Maybe she oversees all the financial losses from the federal reserve building over there.

Here's the side of the Franklin building, this is a massive full block sized building where I used to work in a tiny fishbowl office during covid. Endless office interiors inside with bridges and interesting lobbies that overlook the city higher up.

Now for more treachery, the bridges are now covered in slippery ice within a 15 minute span. The key is to walk like a penguin over this ice.

If a sailboat comes by someone has to go in here and draw the bridges up. Great for blocking traffic for a long time while the boat slowly makes its way past. Its the worst getting stuck behind a drawn up bridge during lunch when you have to run back to the office to do work.

Lots of corrupt Chicago mayors get their names in plaques on these little draw bridge things.

Seems nice and sunny out but the wind is blisteringly cold.

Now for a barge hauling sand that got covered in ice. Probably expanding the riverwalk somewhere closer to the Mag Mile downstream.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
Keep cozy always! Your place looks very cold and slippery, aren't thise buildings look scary in reality? Keep safe in your walks!
The buildings are quite large and intimidating. Each one has its own sort of aura inside, some modern others classic and others kind of spooky and abandoned inside.
Lovely lunch break walk, your photos feel calm and refreshing and it is such a nice way to reset in the middle of the day.
The frigid air was quite refreshing, suddenly icicles were everywhere. Good to realize nature is still outside and cruel as ever compared to the comfort of an office building lol.
👍
Thanks :-) Thankfully its not the bird migrating season in Chicago, I see lots of them stunned on the sidewalks in spring and fall. I try my best to save the stunned ones.
The city buildings are amazing especially in the night view I never visited such a modern city in Italy everything looks more little!!
More little in Italy but way more classic. The glass modernity of new huge buildings can get a bit boring.
Happy #wednesdaywalk! I really enjoy your cityscape posts. I never thought I would miss cities when I moved to the country but I do. I think you don't miss things because you don't really consider them until they aren't around.
I kind of consider the city a sort of rat utopia experiment. I would probably go crazy if I lived downtown lol. Just enough time to stay sane by working there and heading out to suburbia where there's green space.
