Wednesday Walk - Life and Death at the Lake
Here are a few summer scenes from the lake for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay
First we start out with the parking attendant. This must be this young robin's first job. Please don't park here sir, there will be a $200 fine and a tow fee.
Right by the lake I discovered a bit of death. Turtles live forever so I wonder what this one died of... Maybe just old age or a heron might have managed to gut it and leave the rest here to be eaten by smaller critters.
Fortunately nearby I found a mother turtle laying eggs to replace the one that died.
You can't see it but there was quite the crowd of spectators surrounding her as she laid eggs. I also notice a strange dent in her shell like maybe she had a run in with a boat or something in her past.
Now for a bit more death. Some poor raccoon decided to kick the bucket in the lake... Maybe it died of a heat stroke just as it made it to the water, who knows, pretty gross the turtles and fish were picking at it too.
This fisherman didn't seem to mind that there was a gross bloated raccoon just around the corner lol. I caught a big one!!! Then he hauls up a bloated raccoon lol.
The bugs are out in full force around the lake. The make some nice shiny sparkles in the sunlight. The chimney swifts and barn swallows love it around here, now I know why.
I think a coyote or fox managed to catch one of the Canadian geese. Or maybe it died of something else. Again the turtles and fish were feasting on it from under the water, ewwwww.
One of the red winged blackbirds seemed perturbed about the dead goose floating around his territory. Oomph the smell, and I just moved here.
Hey human put yourself to good use and call the cleanup crew.
The rabbits are nice and healthy this year as it seems to be a low tick and flea season. I don't even see anything going on in its ear, it almost looks like a clean domesticated rabbit. Usually you can see at least a few ticks in the ear around this time. I guess that's why they call them vermin lol.
That's all for now, thanks for looking, sorry bout the dead critters this time lol.
Circle of life. Thats a pretty weighty topic for a lazy summer day. Now I feel the need to upgrade my summer reading list to include some deeper, philosophical tomes 😂 Nice captures especially the perfect little bunny shot.
Haha that raccoon was quite a weighty subject especially with all the extra water weight it took on lol. Fortunately there were some fresh bunnies to offset the decay.
What a cool mix of life and death images, I can imagine the fishermans reaction if he thought he had caught a fish and pulled in a dead racoon
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
That would be only slightly worse than catching one of those asian carps.
LOL
the bird looks very dashing, and the feathers are also very beautiful
It still has its juvenile coloring, eventually the feathers will become solid orange.
so whether the bird is still young or already has an old age, as we can see in its young feathers. that at the time of shooting how many times zoom.
I have i think a 200mm zoom lens with a extension ring that increases it a bit more than 200mm.
The insects in the sunlight is such a great capture @sketch.and.jam 😎 beautiful.
To bad from all the dead animals… a bit iewww thinking the fish eat it and he was fishing there.
But hey, that’s life right.
Great to capture the mother turtle laying the eggs. Even though it was a bit crowded.
Have a great day further 👋🏻☀️
The fish and turtles were eating good that day lol. The fisherman better only look in his area of the lake. Later on he will be thinking his fish tastes like foi gras.
Hahaha foi gras hahaha 😝
Yep… lol
The fish and turtles did / do have a good meal for a few days.
Wow! Lots of dead things this time. Don't usually see such clean bunnies...
Last year was a bad tick year, hopefully the animals will get a rest this year.
I get sad when I see someone die, but what to do is life. You know, I've never seen a hare up close! Do you see them every summer?
The rabbits are all over the place here especially in the evenings. Plenty of grass for them to eat and if you get lucky the babies can be picked up by hand right when they emerge from their dens.
ooft - the fish and turtles were having a feast !
Hahah it was pretty terrible.
Wow, everything looks amazing, you shoot it quite indsj every picture looks so clear. thanks for sharing.
Bright sunlight works well with my zoom lens. A bit of clouds or shade will ruin it.
Great walk and observation, and of course photos!
Too bad no turkey vultures landed for the carcasses I found lol. They are still on my bucket list for bird photos.
