Squirrel Sunday - The Blacktop River of Doom

The squirrels are back for #squirrelsunday

Hey did you hear about Fred?

No I haven't seen him in days.

Neither have I he must have gone across the blacktop river to steal some acorns from the hawk territories.


I've always told him not to go there its a sketchy area that is definitely not worth a few acorns.


Hey I've made it out of there alive on a couple of occasions. You just have to be light on your feet and keep your senses about you...


I'd rather sit here and eat grass than risk crossing the blacktop river of doom. Sure my life isn't very exciting but at least I don't have to face the hawks or the river of doom.


I'm stuck here on the wrong side of town blocked by the blacktop river.


That Fred is crazy even attempting to cross it for a few acorns. I'd rather eat a greasy fry container than risk the blacktop river of doom.


Meanwhile the patrol squirrel that watches the edge of the blacktop river has spotted a gruesome sight...


Fred got flattened... Now the hawks are eyeing some nice bits of jerky when the time is right. Beware the blacktop river of doom squirrels...

Here we have quite a few different species of squirrels and they are all over the place. Poor chipmunk Fred decided to run across the street at the exact wrong time.

Yesterday when we were out we came across 4 squirrels in the road. One was checking out a newly flattened 4th, looking distressed. Seemed like there were an awful lot of flat squirrels when we were out yesterday.

I wonder if they babies are all emerging from the nest over there? I've seen quite a few awkward little ones running around. I'm sure the other three squirrels learned a valuable lesson from the 4th.

They do a funny thing where they wait at the side of the road then decide to run right when a car comes by. Same thing with rabbits.

Maybe it has a brain worm or some strange parasite that mind controls it. Then the hawks eat the raod kill and the parasite completes its lifecycle in the hawks lol. Like those mind controlled snails that climb up to high branches to be eaten by birds.

Oh yes… I have seen a documentary about just that. Those parasites 🦠 creepy to say the least.
Who knows… if they control the hosts minds.

Nature and all in it has a cycle when one watches carefully.

Thanks for the curation, yeah the little chipmunk darted at just the wrong time. Plus it was on just a single lane street where cars drive slowly so it probably panicked and decided to run right under the tire at the wrong time.

I like the special effect of Fred swimming under the surface of the blacktop river. It distorts his features and makes him look flat... almost 2 dimensional.

He entered the pancake dimension the only thing he has to fear in the pancake dimension are the sharp two dimensional triangles, squares and circles are fine though.

Wow! Great pictures of the squirrel. Honestly, I have not seen it in person but I know more about it as I used to read books and even kid stories when I was younger. They were all cute in the photos but I felt sad for the last picture as it is shown on the ground.

They are all super cute, some of them don't seem that smart around highways though. They dart out at the last minute and get squashed.
