Fungi Friday - Rekt Mushrooms

Here are some sad looking mushroom for this #fungifriday by @ewkaw

Now that the summer rains have subsided a bit over here the mushrooms are starting rot and look pretty rekt. These used to be two large Tylopilus rhoadsiae aka pale bitter boletes. The bugs are feasting away at the wreckage.

Here are some pinning LBMs (little brown mushrooms). I found these ones just after a rain.

Just a couple days later they were starting to look mangled.

Then it rained again and they got way too much water and started folding upward.

And it rained even more and they totally became indistinguishable from their original form. This sometimes happens when you try and grow mushrooms from a kit. If you mist them too much and they don't get enough airflow they will start turning inside out like this.

Next up is a peppery lactarius aka Lactarius piperatus. This is a young fresh one that is harvestable. These are so spicy they are only good for drying and using as a black pepper substitute.

Here is one that got too much rain and is starting to rot. Most milk cap mushrooms end up forming a little concave cap like this that catches the rain water.

Here are some even older ones. They really get concave after about a week.

The bugs don't really seem to feast on these ones as much as other mushrooms. I suspect their super spicy compounds act as a repellant to insects.

Here is what appears to be either a brittle gill or a different type of lactarius.

I wish I could have found this when it was in a less waterlogged state, maybe I could have gotten a positive ID. The bright red color seems like it could be a russula but those don't seem to grow as large as this one.

That's all for this #fungifriday hopefully less waterlogged mushrooms will be out for next week.

Too dry, too wet. You are a hard guy to please 🤣 I like the photos of the LBMs and how they progress. I am trying to learn more about how mushrooms progress. Happy #fungifriday 🙂

Foragers sometimes have difficulties judging the perfect time to go out hunting. I've missed many opportunities to bad weather where you find what could have been a motherload of an edible mushroom but they get too drenched and rotted by the time you find them. I wonder if those lbms are poisonous, they are so tricky to get a good ID on.

very sad to see mushrooms that have passed their prime, but I must admit that your catch is really good, I want to see the last mushroom, this is the first time I see it.

There's a lot of mushroom clusters there, you've done a very good job. Of course this makes us very entertained with the pictures you show.
