Feathered Friday - Leaky Faucet Birds

Here are three birds visiting a leaky water faucet for this #featheredfriday by @melinda010100

The place I was staying at in Arizona had a leaky faucet in the back yard. This created a perfect desert oasis for three different birds. In Arizona wherever there is water there is wildlife.

p2254936_copy.jpg
The first visitor is Abert's towhee. Though this guy has a very small range in southern Arizona it is not a rare bird to see once you get into its range.

p2254937_copy.jpg
The leaky water faucet was quite popular with the birds and the towhee is waiting his turn while another flies down to drink.

p2254949_copy.jpg
The next visitor to the faucet was not as nice as the towhee. The common cardinal is quite the bully of feeder and of leaky water faucets.

p2254945_copy.jpg
He made his presence known with some laser beam chirps then flew down to scare the others away.

p2254950_copy.jpg
He dominated the faucet for a good minute or so until he drank his fill. Fortunately he was a good poser on the rammed earth wall.

p2254952_copy.jpg
The next visitor was a common mockingbird. It wasn't scared of the cardinal at all.

p2254942_copy.jpg
They all seemed to land right above the faucet to scope the place out before flitting down to drink tiny drops of water then land back on top of the wall again.

p2254960_copy.jpg
All I had to do was stand there snapping them pose perfectly on the wall.

If anyone lives in the desert all they have to do is not fix their water faucets for some good bird watching lol. Better yet some kind of waterfall fountain would probably draw in all sorts of birds even more species than just a seed feeder would.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

You had a successful AZ birdwatching trip! Great photos. I had a nighthawk on my deck last night. Rare for me to see. No photos though.

Cardinals are just pretty boys haha Always feel like the world rotates around them and should stop so everyone can get out of their way.

They sure think the world revolves around them. Have you ever seen them fight their own reflection? They are quite territorial and they will fight for hours against a car mirror and end up crapping all over the car lol. We had to put up fake wooden cardinals near the car to keep them from fighting themselves in the mirror.

This red guy certainly looks like a bully! I guess that's why he got his name, because of his attitude of feeling more important than others. His angry look is hilarious! Although I am sure I would have another opinion if I was a small towhee :)
Lovely photos!

The even bigger bully around that area is the curve billed thrasher. But usually the cardinals are the common bully. p2214425.jpg

Another bully! He looks angry too, but the cardinal definitely has the most convincing look I've seen on a bird, lol!

They have a mean looking golden eye, but they mostly bully because they are bigger than everyone else.
