Feathered Friday - Lacrosse Hawks

Here are a variety of bird sightings for this #featheredfriday by @melinda010100

My wife spotted two baby red-tailed hawks hanging out in the lacrosse field on her way back from work.

So we took a walk back there to see if they were still there. Fortunately they were. It seems like these guys just left the nest and are still trying to figure out how to fly.

They were fluffing their feathers in the wind trying to figure out how flying works. They did a few hops on the ground and back up to the net caging very awkwardly.

I'll be keeping an eye out for them, hopefully they do well around here. There are definitely plenty of squirrels and chipmunks for them to eat around here lol.

The red-winged blackbird babies are fully filled out with their feathers now.

They are still quite tame at this age. I think this one was trying to find bugs in the wild roses. The parents were shrieking inside the bush for it to run away from the humans but it didn't really listen to them.

The indigo buntings are out all over the place right now. They are so tiny its hard to get close enough for a large crisp shot before they end up flying away.

Fortunately this little guy was on a lower branch as they typically choose the highest branches to sit on and sing their complex song.

The sparrows are around everywhere constantly. I thought this one looked cute hanging around on this lighthouse garden sculpture. If there was a hole in the top I'm sure they would make a nest inside here.

The doves always make a recognizable silhouette in the evening. They are always good posers for photos but man do they poop on everything lol.

That's all for now, thanks for looking and happy #featheredfriday

Nice to see the babies growing up 🙂 I love the indigo bunting. I have not seen one. I looked up the range and there should be some around. I'm still excited to find east coast birds or east coast species of birds I know from the west coast.

You probably have heard the buntings, unfortunately they like to hide high up in the leaves of the biggest trees. They are common around here but i hardley ever get a clear shot of one out in the open. Keep an eye/ear out for the eastern whipoorwill.

There's an indigo bunting around here, my birding neighbor has seen it. But I'd sure love to, as they are glorious in the sunlight.

The only way I find them is by listening for their call then straining my eyes to look where they are at in the trees.

Oh, you have some really nice bird pictures here. The hawks are just great, maybe because of my passion for photographing birds of prey but no, I like your pictures.

I've been lucky this year seeing so many baby raptors emerging from their nests. A few weeks ago I saw three great horned owl babies.

I hope I can spot them in the area again. The little buntings usually only show up as a silhouette high up in the trees. I once had a baby one fly right at me as it just left the nest then the parents were freaking out at it lol.

My wife spotted two baby red-tailed hawks hanging out in the lacrosse field on her way back from work.

I love hawks. I even live with one. Not with a red-tailed hawk, but with a Harris's hawk. But it is also possible to keep a red-tailed hawk as a hobby bird in my country (in Hungary), and in a few other countries. There are breeders of both of these birds.
