Impending Doom - A Darkwave Horror Synth Straturday
Here's a little horror synth backing track I created in MPC 2 on my Akai MPK Mini while commuting in to work. I randomly chose some samples and synths and it ended up sounding gloomy and kind of like a horror soundtrack so I kept going with the theme. Later I exported all the tracks from MPC and remixed them in Cakewalk with better mixing plugins to take some of the sterile sounds of the drums and synths out and make it a bit more gritty. Finally about mid-way through the song I added my stratocaster with effects that mangle the clean signal to go along with the rest of the mix. It came out a bit bluesy for horror synth but I don't mind the mood change mid-song. The skull is something I created in 3ds max and rendered with vray as a 100 frame animation that loops. It seemed to go well with the mood of the song. That's all for now thanks for listening happy #straturday :-)

Gotta love the red guitar, nice smooth action and string bendability.
9's?
It has 10s on it. I've never actually tried 9s, perhaps I'll put some on my gibson to see if it helps with intonation.
It won't 😉
haha I've been wrestling with the high note intonation on that les paul for years.
Wow. Really loving the distorted synth sounds. The guitar solo midway was epic too!
Really nice job.
Thanks for this
For the synth sound I took a generic sounding 80s synth then added some distortion and flange effects to it to make it more bassy. Thanks for listening :-)
Thanks for this. It helps. I produce too, or at least I'm learning to.
What daw do you use?
FL studio.
Which one do you use?
I use cakewalk and mpc beats both are free and they are pretty powerful for features.
Wow. That's nice. I'll try them out. Thanks.

Thanks so much for these links!
I really appreciate them.
Like a guitar lover I was wating to the minute 2:26 when the guitar appear with all the magic and amazing sound, idk but i feel the sound of egypt here, i feel the sun, the sand, letss F** Go!!!!
The beat does kind of have that egyptian darbuka feel to it, plus with a minor some of the scale sounds middle eastern. Originally I had a strange pitch filter step sequencer effect on the guitar to make it sound more digital but it didn't go to well with the mix so it ended up being more of a chorus plate reverb sound. Thanks for listening :-)

Great skull. Nice fit with sound. I like the stratocaster coming in. Its like a movie sound track. All foreboding then the strat comes in. Something big definitely happens at that point in the movie lol
That's when they put on the sunglasses and see aliens everywhere running the show.
Ah I missed this over the weekend... man, this ROCKS! I love the dark vibe to this one. So cool you managed to do this on a commute to work!
Nice that you're using cakewalk. I've heard good things about that DAW, along with Reaper. I still use ProTools First (can't afford full version!) but I definitely want to improve my overall setup real soon
If only I could somehow record my guitar on the train too lol. Cakewalk is pretty nice especially since its free and has so many features. But if you don't have any vst plugins you might stay with protools, though now most plugins have both vst and aax versions.
