It is a privilege to curate for #MSP-Curation every Saturday as a part of the @Minnowsupport initiative. "Peace, Abundance, Liberty" is the motto of PAL, which supports all Hive users, but notably the minnows.

And what a wonderful opportunity to pick five articles from Ladies of Hive, which is my main focus!

To control everything in the midst of difficult moments:
💫 Forgive yourself and love yourself. So that you have a chance to start again.
💫 Learn to say NO, too much can not help everyone and accept favors if you have not finished your personal and possible work commitment.
💫 First you, then you and then others. Whether we are mother, wife, granddaughter, cousin, grandmother, aunt, godmother, best friend. Everyone has a role and should not take on the responsibility of others. Getting too involved affects your time and effort (It hurts when we are told “I didn’t ask you to help me”. Limit but don’t isolate yourself from them.
💫 If you have a partner. Love routine like boyfriends and girlfriends. You believe you can be loyal to your partner and avoid psychological abuse through verbal, physical and emotional abuse. Your relationship is stable. But if it is the opposite, having a toxic relationship can damage your peace of mind and have psychological damage that will have to attend a specialist. (It leaves a debt that you will want to claim and defend yourself when you could not previously with your ex. And it is directed towards your new partner) (it is also about abandonment, insecurity in trusting the other because of their past in childhood).
💫 As long as she is irritated, she feels she is losing control of herself and capable of saying something hurtful to escape the chaos. First we must take a deep breath, think that the sky is blue and the cloud is white. Even the salty sea with its natural noise. If it is possible to block at the moment. It is a matter of second and you will see that you can control what happens inside you and what you expel from outside. You can explain and express moderate without being upset or loud voice as well as shouting or aggressive tone. Give it a try.
💫 if you recognize your emotions, you know that you have no other alternatives because you have already tried to take your life. Not as an act of cowardice, it is to turn off our thoughts and problems that caused pain in vain. We think that they do not need us and can forget about us. Negative thinking is sometimes the worst enemy. They do whatever you want with us and it doesn’t matter if you are tired or not. That is where you should go accompanied with the person who love you, so you can go to the psychologist.

It is in the midst of difficulties that we have had to face our fears in the face of situations that overwhelm us and often disturb our minds.
Letting ourselves be carried away by an attitude of defeat before the time is the worst thing we can do, because there is always hope, even if we don't believe it, even if we have no idea how something can be fixed, and because I think that we should not live dominated by fear or defeat.
In every situation we face, there are always two paths to take: the path of hope or the path of defeat.
I believe that whether or not we get up from a blow is not an option, but rather an obligation to ourselves.
I have always thought that we do not forget our dreams, nor do we put them aside, if anything we put them on hold.

I need to practice several things in order to control myself. This is not easy, and for me, there is no one who can fully recover from this mental problem and they have to do something to prevent their mind from thinking negatively or in a difficult situation.
Firstly, for me, getting enough sleep is extremely helpful for maintaining a healthy mind. I used to stay up late and sometimes had very short sleep durations. It's not good for one's health, actually. For me, getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep is crucial. However, even now, it is very difficult for me to get that amount of sleep. 😴
Secondly, I need to learn breathing techniques. I usually do a 4-second breath in, 4-second hold, 4-second breath out, and 4-second hold exercise three times a day. This helps me when I am stressed or experiencing a panic attack. Panic attacks used to randomly strike me, but not as frequently as before. Now, I am able to fight off panic attacks because I accept their presence and control them through breathing alone. It's all just a play in the mind. 🧘
Thirdly, I learn different meditation techniques from YouTube. There are various types of meditation that are suitable for different situations. For me, I sometimes do meditation when I wake up and before I sleep. Sometimes, I even sleep with my headphones on, listening to meditation tracks from Spotify that teach techniques for energizing, easy sleep, and more. 🙇
Fourth, and most importantly, is the support from the people closest to us, whether it's family or loved ones. I am grateful that my family, especially my mother and children, understand my condition during that time. Now, when I talk to them about my past struggles with depression, they are very open about it. At the very least, they are aware of the importance of mental health, and their support has been extremely helpful. 👪

I share with you some of the practices that I usually resort to to maintain control:

  • Understand that there are things that you cannot change: This is very important, because there are people and events that are immutable, that you will not be able to change, even if you desperately want to. For example, a death, or a person being obtuse and not understanding reasons, or a person betraying you, who you later discover has no values or principles; that does not depend on you, that is there and you cannot change it; all that remains is to let go of that.
  • To think that everything passes, nothing is immutable or eternal: Of course, this is something that must be dosed wisely, since with this I do not mean that we are going to remain neutral, waiting for everything to pass. Otherwise, we must act, but if we see that we are making an effort to resolve something, avoid losing control and know that everything will pass.
  • Wash my face, arms and hands, and if I can do it, take a bath: I believe in the purifying and cleaning power of water, so if I feel like I'm losing control, and it's within my reach to do this, I go and take a bath or wash, visualizing that all that bad energy leaves my body.
  • Have a coffee, a tea, a juice, any drink that seems delicious to me, and if possible, accompany it with a snack: Like food and drink for me means love and comfort, and also I perceive food as something sacred, so if I can pause in a stressful and difficult situation, I do that, eat and drink something tasty, trying to enjoy and savor every bite and every sip, this has a calming effect on me.
  • Try to connect with the other's feelings: If I am at the precise moment when I can lose control when arguing with someone else, I try to think about how they feel, what they think, what they aspire to, what they believe. This is hard, really hard and I don't always succeed, but it helps. This is what is known as practicing otherness, which in simpler words is: “Putting yourself in someone else's shoes.”
  • Focus my attention on other things: This is like taking a break. Sometimes that pause lasts for days, but it is really better to wait, to make time, for the emotions to settle and to be able to have a more objective view of the situation.

Looking back to those days when I was at my lowest I totally get why I felt the way I did. There are some situations you can deal with because they’re just minor difficulties you’ve come across so many times and there are others where you don’t even know what to do next and at this point you start to freak out.
I remember crying so much once when I was having a difficult time but I realized my crying wasn’t going to solve the problem. Along the line, I found ways and means to control myself in such a situation so I don’t overreact or harm myself.
This first action I’d recommend to any I’ve having a hard time is to speak up. Speaking in the sense that you should read out to someone and talk about what you’re going through. A problem shared is half solved and this would even reduce some burden off your shoulders. There’s no shame in asking for help.
Next, we should learn to be positive. Nothing lasts forever and with hardship comes easy. When we are in different times, the best we can do for ourselves is to be positive and optimistic. Positive thinking might not be a big deal for most of us but truth is, it should be as it has many benefits. It also helps reduce fatigue.
Be kind to yourself. When we find ourselves in difficult moments we most at time tend to be hard on ourselves. One thing we should know is, it’s okay not to be okay and everything doesn’t have to go so perfectly well. It’s times like this that make us cherish the good days.
An extra tip to reduce the weight of the whole moment is to practice taking in deep breaths as this helps reduce your heart rate while reducing stress.
