Beer Tasting: Tre Luppoli & St.Bernardus

avatar

Hello, beer lovers! 🍻 😎 🍻

What a nice, windy, autumn day, this #beersaturday, 279th in a row.
After yesterday's intense rain, the weather has calmed down and a real autumn breeze is blowing. It has cooled down and I have no plans to go anywhere.
I'll just stay at home and do my favorite Saturday evening activity.

I have two beers in front of me, one Italian and one Belgian, which I am tasting for the first time. That will be interesting :)

🍻 😎 🍻 😎 🍻

Angelo Poretti Tre Luppoli

Brewed by Birrificio Angelo Porreti, Lainate, Lombardia, Italy.
Bottle, 0.66 l, alcohol 4.8% ABV. It's a standard lager beer with a neutral grainy flavor and low bitterness.

What do the Master Brewers say?

3 Luppoli is a lager with a clear color, fine, tightly clinging foam, and a crisp and light body.
It's a balanced-tasting beer with a 4.8 percent alcohol content that is easily drinkable. Precisely because of its light nature, it's perfect to accompany all the flavors of the Mediterranean tradition.
An easy-drinking beer with a fresh, thirst-quenching bready malt flavor, perfect for pairing with daily meals.

Well, even though it's an extra size, there won't be any food to go with it.

The beer is clear and bright yellow, and the head is solid but disappears quickly.
It has no smell. It goes down the throat smoothly and, I could really say it's neutral, mildly bitter, bread and hay flavor, very non-invasive, and even that disappears quickly in the aftertaste.

A classic Mediterranean lager for a refreshing drink. But that's it. Nothing special. There's nothing I can point out, either good or bad. I have no desire to keep it in the fridge.
It's very likely that I'll forget it very quickly.

🍻 😎 🍻 😎 🍻

Today it's time for beer memes, what do you think? 😁

St. Bernardus Abt 12

Brewed by St. Bernardus Brouwerij, Watou, West Flanders, Belgium.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 10% ABV. It's Quadrupel or Abt style beer, which means that is dark and rich, strong Belgian beer with a blend of malt richness, spiciness, and dark fruit flavors.

What do the Master Brewers say?

The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic ’Quadrupel’ style of Belgium’s best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavors, and excels because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. It’s a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.

Wow!
One of the best beers in the world in such a modest, small bottle? Well, that's a surprise.
I went straight to Ratebeer to have a look and it has a really very high rating, and ranks third among these beers.

The beer is dark brown in color, the head is low and not persistent. It smells of dried fruit. The first sip goes carefully down the throat, smoothly, and immediately the complex and strong flavors of prunes, raisins, and figs with a hint of banana and nuts develop in the mouth.

In the background, there is a discreet hop bitterness and malty sweetness, well balanced. In the aftertaste, the dried fruit aromas linger for some time, together with a discreet bitterness.

Great beer!

Very balanced flavors and a completely different dark beer unlike some roasted or smoked porters or stouts. A really pleasant surprise for me. You don't even feel the high alcohol content, well, maybe I will later :) πŸ˜„

It's hard to get here but I'll do my best because I really want something like this in my fridge.

🍻 😎 🍻

And what am I listening to as I write this and taste the beers? Again, something from my latest #newtunes post. The godfather of punk is back!
