Beer Tasting: Ledena, Sunset, and Coffee Express

Hello, beer lovers! 🍻

It's started! What has started? This period, from the beginning of December until the New Year, is called Happy December here. Work activities are slowing down, there are more business parties, more holidays, and three good men visit the children and give out presents. Yes, three of them.
First comes St Nicholas, a Catholic saint, then Santa Claus, who we got through Coca-Cola, and finally Grandpa Frost, who has come to us from Russia, actually the former Soviet Union.
I am not going to go into a rant now about the toxicity and indoctrination of a confused nation. Still, we have accepted everything and for every party there is something.
I will concentrate on the beer instead.

Today, as Happy December has started, I have three cans in front of me, but small ones, three different beer styles, and I'm off to action.

First, the one with less alcohol

🍻 😎 🍻

Bevog Ledena - Siddharta Rock Lager

Brewed by Bevog Brewery, Bad Radkersburg, Austria.
Can, 0.33 l, 4.5% ABV, IBU N/A.
It's a lager-style beer, specially brewed for the Slovenian rock group Siddharta.

What do the Master Brewers say?

It's with great pride, honour and responsibility that we have embarked on this collaboration with Slovenia's biggest rock group. Siddharta are beer lovers, so together we embarked on a mission to create a beer that would be perfect for them and their fans. We used only Slovenian hops - the legendary Aurora and the modern Styrian Dragon. For the malt base we chose pale malt, from a small, extremely high quality maltster in Germany. The result is a pale golden-yellow beer with a beautiful white head. The aroma and taste focus our senses on an extremely refreshing beer with a very nicely integrated subtle fruity note that youthfully enlivens the beer rather than overpowering it. LEDENA is just what we wanted, a real rocker beer that flows down the throat very nicely and cools us down at even the most heated concert with its subdued 4,5 % alcohol.

Bevog brews very good beers as I know.

The beer is golden yellow, the head is solid and it subsides quickly. It has no particular odor. The first sip goes down the throat smoothly, there is a hint of malt and a hint of hop bitterness, a slight spicy, a slight citrus aroma.
The hop bitterness lingers in the aftertaste for a while, everything else disappears.

Drinkable and refreshing. A pretty solid lager, very suitable for big rock events. I'm not a fan of Siddharta, who are big stars in our country and gather tens of thousands of people at their concerts, I'm more of a fan of smaller clubs where you have direct contact with the performers, but I wouldn't mind if somewhere else, at some smaller events, they served this kind of beer instead of industrial lagers.

🍻 😎 🍻

Green Gold Sunset Pale Ale

Brewed by Green Gold Brewing, Ε empeter v Savinjski dolini, Slovenia.
Can, 0.33 l, alcohol 5.1% ABV, IBU 30.
It's a Pale Ale style beer, hop-forward, and with a balanced malt profile.

What do the Master Brewers say?

This pale and clear ale is brewed with homegrown Styrian Wolf hops from Slovenia and American Mosaic hops, which impart a fruity and hoppy aroma that is fresh and inviting. The use of these hops also adds a little bitterness to the beer, creating a perfectly balanced taste. The fruity notes of the hops complement the lightness of the beer, making it a perfect choice for a warm summer day or a relaxing evening.

Green Gold is a well-known craft brewery in Slovenia, they offer various-style beers.

The beer is cloudy yellow, the head is rather low and disappears quickly. It smells of hops. The sip goes down the throat smoothly, and the bitterness of the hops immediately takes over with fruity notes of citrus and grapefruit, the sweetness of the malt is more in the background but present.
In the aftertaste, the fruity notes and malty flavor disappear, but the bitterness remains for quite some time.

A tasty and juicy beer. I would say it's more American Pale Ale than regular due to the fruity flavors. It's just right for a beer night. I would like another one of these, but unfortunately I don't have it. But it's available in a few local shops so one will end up in my fridge.

🍻 😎 🍻

Overmura Coffee Express Porter

Brewed by Pivovarna Overmura, Petrovci, Slovenia.
Can, 0.33 l, alcohol 5.5% ABV, IBU N/A
It's Porter style, usually dark brown beer, with roasted malt and bitterness and often with a chocolate or coffee taste.

What do the Master Brewers say?

A dark porter-style beer, with pleasant aromas of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. Rich and thick head, dark colour and pleasant bitterness from Slovenian hops. The perfect beer for a good end to the day.

It's a newer brewery, I tried one of their lagers and it was pretty good. We'll see what the porter is like.

The beer is dark, almost black in colour, the head is creamy and persistent. It smells burnt. The sip goes down the throat smoothly, the palate develops a pronounced bitterness from the burnt malt, there is a hint of bitter chocolate and coffee, perhaps a hint of caramel in the background.
The bitterness of the burnt malt lingers in the aftertaste for some time.

The beer is drinkable and interesting, but I've tried better porters. I wouldn't say it's bad, far from it, but I wouldn't dare to drink another one, not because of the alcohol, but more because of the too-pronounced burnt bitterness that lingers in the mouth. It should be more balanced in my opinion.

🍻 😎 🍻

And what am I listening to as I write this and taste beers at the beginning of a Happy December? Nothing from my #newtunes post yesterday, but I did find a live performance of Siddharta, admittedly ten years old, at the StoΕΎice stadium in Ljubljana.

Siddharta - Napoj

I've tasted a lot of them in the last seven years I've been writing this blog. You can even count them if you like. 😎🍻

That’s a nice batch of beers! Caramel with hint of chocolate sounded fancy. ✨

Thanks for stopping by. Yes, caramel, coffee, and chocolate are the basic flavors of Porter-style beers.
