The First Item I bought with My Salary last for 5 Long Years

Hello everyone! @saydie here and this is my first post for the Hive Learners community with featured contest #hl-w48e1 which is "THE VERY FIRST".

This topic takes me back to 2014 when I took a part- time job which required me to migrate for 6 months and despite the loneliness being apart from family and friends, being able to buy this one item with my first salary was able to give a great sense of accomplishment for me and has allowed me to relieved some of my loneliness.

Before I get a full- time job, I first work as a part- time employee for this plastic container company for 6 months as a QC. The payment was around PHP 9,000.00 in Philippine peso or around $ 164 USD for a 12- hour job which depending on what country you live in, may be to low or high enough but the good thing about this company is that they offered free lodging for their employees. Although they offered electricity and water comes together with the lodging, they do not provide much in terms of entertainment. You can only watch television on the company's canteen which can be really packed with people after working hours and it was only open until 8:00 P.M so after that, you have nothing much to do than to sleep so it can get really lonely there.

That is why after the first month of working there, I decided to buy a Laptop. It was a Toshiba NB255-N240 Mini Notebook which I bought as a second hand item on an Electronics pawnshop for PHP 4,000.00 or around $ 70 USD. I still need to budget my salary between food and Hygiene and save some so this is the best I can buy at that time but it was good enough so that I can have something to spent my time and more or less, finally be able to buy something tangible with your hard earned money is something that gives a great sense of fulfillment for me.

Before this, I don't have a computer at home and only renting on internet cafe's when I want to play games and while watching videos can also be done with my mobile phone, I still prefer something that I with bigger screen. It has very low specs but it is good enough to allow me to play Frozen Throne and some other games or be able to watch videos on it that I downloaded during my day- offs on internet café's. It is also installed with Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop because sometimes, I do some document stuff such as working for my Resume and do some minor image editing like when I made a tarpaulin and invitation layout for my nephew and other relatives since I could get some commission from that.

On 2019, the Laptop has finally died down. It still has the power on it but the screen doesn't show up anything even when I connect it with an external monitor. On the other hand, the was still able to use the Hard Disk on it as an external HDD which I used to back- up some important documents and store computer softwares. Still, for something that I bought as a second hand item to last five years, it has serve me well and more than what I initially take it for and is still somehow serving me until this point, making my first major spent of my salary meaningful.

Up to this date, I still keep the Laptop with me event though I already have a Lapatop replacement and a separate computer. Other people might see it as a junk but for me was something like a trophy, reminding me that once in my life, I don't have anything of my own but with the hard work that I've done for the past years, I was able to little by little build my assets and bought things which at some point, were still but a dream.
