I'm A Lady, Should I Be Punished For It?

"You are a lady, you should not be doing that." or "You are a lady, you should do that."
I would often hear my parents, family members, friends, and people say these all the time and trust me, as much as it can be a good advice, it can also be painful especially when it's something that I do not necessarily have to do but because I am a lady, I have to do it.

Gender discrimination is a situation where someone is treated less favourably due to their gender. This can come in several forms and I have had my share of this a couple of times.

1st Instance:
I grew up not liking some dishes, about 3 of them though I liked and ate other dishes very well. To be specific, these dishes are : Egusi soup, vegetable soup and bitterleaf soup. I could not even stand the sight of them.

My Mum tried everything she could to make me like these dishes but it never worked. Sometimes, I will explain to her that I disliked them a lot but she would justify her actions by saying that I am a woman, I have to like every dish and know how to prepare them as well so I won't be embarrased in front of my husband or in-laws.

This was just not fair. So because I am a lady, I must like very kind of food because of a man and his family members who are not God? As a person, I am entitled to have my preferences when it comes to food and not to lose my will because I am a woman and nowadays, there are men who don't even mind if their wives cannot cook, they hire people to do the cooking for them and they live happily. My freedom to eat what I want to should not be dictated by my gender.

Another disheartening instance was with one of the Lecturers in my department, who is a Professor. This one is so annoying because it is based on his religiousity and ignorance.

The Lecturer attends a Church where women are not allowed to put on trousers because it is seen as a sin and women who do such are seen as deviants.

When we had his class for the first time, he said any woman who wears trousers to his class will be sent out.
This was so annoying and unethical.

Why are women always the one who are put under such religious subjections and doctrines?
Whereas, the men are free to dress the way they want but the women are always constrained and this is not the way it is in the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

They prohibit them from wearing trousers, wearing makeup, wearing jewellery, they must always cover their hairs and if any is caught with uncovered hair, she's treated as a sinner, the same person who Christ died for. This makes the women appear older than their ages and now this lecturer of mine was doing the same. I'm cock sure if he had the opportunity, he would ask all the ladies to take off their jewellery & cover their hairs as well.

He does not even have the spiritual authority to do that to start with, because the ladies in my class are under the authorities of their husbands, fathers or Pastors who are the ones to decide what they wear not some Lecturer and this is mostly done in Africa. Nowhere in the Western world will a Lecturer ask women who put on trousers to leave their classes because it's seen as a sin in his Church or religious organisation.

I learned from all these that your gender should not limit you from living a happy and free life, so long as it is within God's will and order.
About the behaviour of my Lecturer, when I have the opportunity, I will respectfully bring up the matter to a Lecturer higher than him or to the Head of my Department as to why such act from him should be condoned. We're not in his Church and nor under his spiritual authority so, his Church doctrines do not apply to us.

That'd be all for now...

Till next time beautiful soul... ❤️❤️

Lols I think that lecturer is still living in the 80's and 90's.
Why will a lecturer give such rules to grown up ladies, that's so rude. Maybe he needs some teachings.
