Shared Stories and The Pasalubong: Cracking Layers of Shell of Pili Fruit Need Time and Patience -The Delicious and Raw Pili Nuts

It's been quite a while since I last eaten a Pili Nut. Not the one in a Bottle which usually is packed as a Pasalubong, but a fresh Pili Nuts. We cracked it open, remove its shell carefully and peel it's skin and then eat it. Yep, a fresh Pili Nut I mean. I remember having that as a kid, when I was still in elementary, there's a Pili Tree near our school and with my other classmates, we'll go there and hunt some and after that, we'll got so busy cracking it open, and with a stone on our hand, its a funny moment now that I'm remembering it, (⁠≧⁠▽⁠≦⁠)

Now, early this Morning, Mommy D got a visitor,its her nephew who often visits her here in Bansud. I really love how close they are to each other. They have long and fun conversation this morning. Ka Orly is a real joker even sometimes when he shared some funny story, I can't help but laugh with them, lol. Same happen today, I couldn't join the convo coz I was busy with the pets. So, he has a Pasalubong for Mommy D and her Sister, Aunt V and it's from somewhere. Didn't hear where it was but it's somewhere.

So here's the Pili, they all look black but before they turn black, they are I think green first, when newly fall from its tree? This thing has layers of shell, like there's the soft ones, the hard one, and that like of a skin and its kind of a wood skin before the nuts itself. Its a fascinating fruit tbh and complicated coz of its layers. I actually look at it on google the shell layers and they even have names: Exocarp, Mesocarp, and Endocarp (Shell). Isn't that cool. Not sure if the other nut has that kind of shells, i'm curious though

And here they are after Mommy D removed it's outer layer, the soft part. What you see there is its hard shell, you'll need something to crack it open. Mommy D used the stone we have here in the kitchen. Its a clean huge stone to mashed garlic, ginger, and even the whole pepper. But yk, if I decided to throw this to someone, they'll surely get hurt by it haha. They said, this hard shell can be use in some handcraft. If you've got that cool creativity, this for sure will be useful. And ah, yes, opening it, its really amazing how Mommy D open it. The inside didn't got smashed which usually happen when we crack it open. But maybe with the right strength, she succesfully made open them without destroying the nut

And inside this hard shell was this. And you can't wat them yet. It still has that thin, woody that is like wrapped in it. Removing that is not that hard at all. You just need patience when that thin skin was too attached to the nuts itsefl.

And finally! After cleaning it, removing whatever shits in it, smashing its shell with so much care and love, and then finally removing its thin woody skin, the final later, its eating time! But it lowkey looks like a ginger, hahaha. Anyways, I seriously love its taste guys. The texture? Winner! I can't tell the taste but I like whatever it is. It is crunchy of course, it taste a lil sweeter, kinda creamy or something, I'm not really sure. But it taste good! And going all the trouble in removing its layers of shells is all so worth it!

I am curious if this Pili Nut has ever reach your country. The one sold in a bottle coated with sugar is really good too. But I wish I can also make y'all taste the fresh ones like this. Have you ever heard Pili Nut ior Pili Tree?
