NEWBIES INITIATIVE TASK 3- MY HIVE KEYS AND SECURITY

During my signup process for hive, @estherscott was very intentional and specific on making sure I know how important my keys are, before I even started the signup process she had already mentioned like twice that I would see a set of keys and I need to watch out for it so I don’t miss it and not save it.

When I finally got to that bridge and saw the keys, she instructed that I save it everywhere, screenshot it, save it to my iCloud, to my password saver, to my
Mail, I was like what’s the keys about self?
And that was when she made me understand all the uses and risk involved with not keeping your hive keys and it should be kept safe at all cost.

Again thanks to @bruno-kema For further explanation and shedding enough light on
how important the keys are and how to recover ones account and all the necessary details everyone needed to know about hive security.

From the tutorial I learnt that there are five different keys on hive and each keys have separate and unique uses.

1.Memo key
2.Posting key
3.Active Key
4.Owners key
5.Master key

POSTING KEY: This is required for making posts and comments as the name implies, it is also needed to follow accounts, upvote and reblog posts, and even mute accounts.

ACTIVE KEY: This particular key has the most use. It is also used for Hive Power up or down, for HBD conversions, voting for witnesses, etc.

OWNER KEY: This is the most powerful key, by the name alone you can tell. This is the key that should be guarded most preciously like a precious stone. It is used to reset all other keys, and even recover your account. It is also used to create another masker key in the event that it gets lost or forgotten.

MASTER KEY: This is the one key that is used to recover all your passwords if it ever happens that you loose them.

MEMO KEY: This is the least powerful key and it is also not used often. It can be used to send and view private messages among users.

KEEPING MY KEYS SAFE
Personally i saved my keys every place possible that I know cannot be accessed by anyone except myself on my phone. I further sent it to my partner as an email to ensure he too saves it for me just incase something happens to my phone. I have two phones so I also sent it to the second one and saved it in every way possible. Small thing i would have sent my mother because that’s the surest person to keep valuable things with(Lol)

Find effective ways to save your keys, if you can take the time to write it out fine, save it to your iCloud, save it in your personal password saver, and every other place only you know to keep it safe.

ACCOUNT RECOVERY STEPS

If there should be an incident of loosing your account or hacked account, do not fret too much, there are steps that have been put in place for you to ensure that your account can be recovered, all you need to do is follow the required steps and you would be able to get your account back in no time.

First thing you need to know is that every account has a trustee. Now who is a trustee? A trustee is an account that has been attached to yours, basically for the the sole purpose of helping you recover your account when the need arises. It can also be referred to as a recovery account.

RECOVERY STEPS:

1. Tap on the recovery link https://reazuliqbal.com/HiveAccountRecovery/

2.Click on “Recover Account”.

Note that You must first generate a new password so you can be given a new Public Owner Key

3.Follow the instructions as detailed there.

4.Send the Public Owner Key generated to the Trustee.

5.final step, put in the required details and click on “Recover Account”.

Following these steps should enable you recover your account and get back to your blog. We should all try to keep our keys save at all cost. Imagine you loose your house key, getting Into your house wouldn’t be possible, that’s how the hive keys are to you and your account as long as you want to be or are on Hive. Also kindly avoid clicking on phishing links, these are what hackers use to get into accounts. Links that you aren’t sure of or links that promise tokens or upvotes or even HBD.
