FIRST PAYDAY!

I had just began my ushering management brand, this was in the year 2016. I was already so inlove with ushering but never got paid for any job I did then. Yes, back then I ushered for free. Mostly because i always went in the company of my fellowship members in school.

When ever any ex-co or alumni member of the fellowship I attended was getting married, they would ask us, the ushering department members of the church to go help out as ushers in such a persons wedding and we would do it free of charge.Now I look back on it, they might just have been exploiting us but we really did not think much of it then, as long as they provided transportation and we were always taken care of in regards to food and souvenirs by the couple, we were fine.

Well, being an active member of my school fellowship’s ushering department is what inspirered my business idea. You see all those times I went on those free jobs, it one day occurred to me that o could actually do this and earn. I searched the internet for ushering groups and I found out that it’s actually a full time job and I could get paid as well as pay the ladies or gentlemen that would work with or for me. This I found really interesting and I decided I would make a buisness out of it, after all I already had the experience and I had the manpower, I knew a lot of other students that would be excited to get paid extra cash in addition to their allowances from home.

So I told my sisters about the idea and boom they encouraged me. On the 21st of July 2016, my brother in-laws younger sister was to get married and so my brother in-law reached out to me and asked me if I could gather ushers for him and he was willing to pay, tho the money was small, as I write this am laughing because in comparison to what I charge now what he paid back them was really a small token but then it was big in my eyes and I was more than happy for the opportunity.

I reached out to all my friends i used to usher with and in a heartbeat I got the number of ushers needed for the occasion. Then I didn’t have uniforms like I do now so I just asked them to wear black gowns. It wasn’t uniform but it did the job and we did a fine job.

I remember receiving the alert. Tho it was stipends compare to how much I earn now but then it meant everything to me, that first job boosted my confidence and after that my brother got married and I provided ushers for his wedding and he paid me and my brother in-law told his friends who were getting married and they patronized my brand too.Then I met my husband and he started giving me show jobs and linking me to everyone who had an event or occasion.

I can never forget the joy I felt when that first pay came through, and also the joy in the hearts of all my friend that worked for me that day. Only their thank you and appreciations made my heart full and since that day till now, every single time I pay my workers their wages my mind still flashes back to the very first time I got to be an employer of labour.
