Priority is Everything

Life is complex— with its ups and downs, hurdles that keep coming periodically make the path rough of our life. Yet, we find it interesting, we find it enticing enough to go on—move forward and forget those woes of life.

That’s life— with bittersweet memories.

We deal with various tasks a day. From waking up to going to sleep and even when we are asleep, the wheel of our daily task never stops— until death embraces us.

Even though setting priorities may seem a buzzword in a fast-forward life, mostly academic and professional, we are subconsciously following a “priority list” from the day we have developed a sense of our existence or more precisely— when we learned to do things on our own.

Throughout our life, we have some regular tasks as well as some special tasks. Whatever they are, we do not work randomly. Instead, our subconscious mindsets a priority for every task we are to accomplish, the duty we are to perform.

Maybe many of you have started frowning— priorities, what the heck with that in my life when I do nothing but eat and sleep— this could be your thoughts for the time being.

But trust me, nothing goes around without having their position on the priority list we follow.

Okay, let me explain— I am not accusing your feeling, your task lessness, or say, your habit of procrastination. Neither that I am opposing that you do not follow any priority list to do your task— whatever you are up to. Rather, I am saying you to have a list, a shortlist of things you do enlist in a chronological manner— scheduled depending on their urgency.

For example, let’s assume, you do nothing but eat, sleep, and tap your phone until you are asleep at night. Now, tell me, when you are hungry and have foods upfront— do you go to sleep without eating them? Most probably, not.

Again, you are sleeping and someone called you on your phone. Do you reject all calls or receive each of them?

Nah, never— every one of us has rejected calls that are not on our priority list. Similarly, no matter how badly we need to sleep, don’t we receive calls from the important person of our life—say, our parents?

Denying won’t save you, cause, it’s obvious. We all revolve through a central point, a point that include a list of priorities. Even though we do not notice it, we are in it— confess it or not.

Talking about priorities, what should be your priority today— given that, it’s the night of Shab e-Barat or The Night of Fortune and Forgiveness?

I bet 99% of you will answer, today’s priority is nothing but showing our gratitude towards Allah through Nafl Salah or Salat. That’s right, but, partially— not all of it is true.

If there is anything that should be our everyday priority similar to eating and sleeping, it’s ensuring our participation in Farad Salat or Faraz Salat 5 times a day. That’s the first priority even for today— Nafl comes later, and there’s no sin if you skip that (better not to skip without valid reason).

At the same time, celebrating the night with special menus at dinner including meat, halua, ruti, etc. is not recommended. They have no valid backing— not in Islam. What we are practising or seeing many others practice in the name of tradition, they have no place in true Islam. That doesn’t mean you cannot do that— but, do not take that for granted, do them if you have no intention but cheering up the family members before spending the night asking for forgiveness from the Almighty Allah.

Did you set your priority for today’s night right? Remember, you get this special option once a year— don’t let it go in vain.

Peace to you.
