An Ancient Water Channel in Bayad Village

avatar

This is another adventure for me to Bayad Village. The most interesting object here is the underground water channel which was about 10 meters long or even more. And to reach that channel I followed the local guide, Wayan, to go across a farms, a river, before arriving the water channel.

9he2m0.jpgWayan was explaining about plants.

Walking along the farm, Wayan, talked about the plants we found on the way. Some plants I knew, but there were many that I did not know.

I was with my clients who were also eager to know about those plants and to trek along the farm.

After exploring the plants, we continued walking along the forests. It rained the night before that sometime we had to stop walking because there were little trees fallen in our path. We removed the plants then we continued walking.

Next we headed to the river. According to Wayan, because of the rain the night before, there was more water in the river. There was even a waterfall formed because the rain.

I nearly fell on the mud because it was a bit slippery. But I managed to walk near the river and took few photos.

And we walked again to the underground water channel. The water channel was actually a cave. As we stepped into the cave, the rain poured from the sky. What a great timing! I did not have rain coat.

The water channel or was once used before to flow water the farms, especially the rice fields, long time ago. It dated back to more than 200 years ago. Nowadays, the water channel was not used anymore.

The cave, being a water channel once, was not very wide. In some part, only one person could walk along the cave.

Inside the cave, I found there was T junction. This probably where the water diverted to get to different area of the farms. And is some part, the ceiling was broken that you could see the sunlight coming through from the hole on the ceiling.

99xaid.jpg It was not exactly a T junction, but you could turn left or right. And we turned right.

iig7w5.jpg Little waterfall inside the cave that made the cave floor become soft and muddy, gotta walk carefully in this part.

We turned in an alley that lead us to a round chamber. This was a chamber for worship. There few shrines to worship different deities there. According to the guide, the chamber was buried on the ground, and excavated in 2006.

We got off the chamber and the cave. It was still raining outside, we walked through the rain. But I could say it was a great experience for me.
