The System doesn't want us

Back when I was in high school, my dad did this thing where we stop schooling for a year, just so that we could go learn a particular kind of skills and then return to finish school the next year. He did this not because he didn't believe in school and what it has to offer, but because he knew how risky it was depending only on one thing, kinda like putting all of your eggs in one basket.

Actually, my dad so much believed in schooling that he pursued his degree and became a graduate when he was already a father of three kids. I would remember how he would always tell us stories of how he was the oldest in his class and yet little boys were always trying to copy from him because he didn't let his age stop him. He always made sure to get up every night to read for any exam or test he had. The crazy thing was that he was pursuing two degrees at the same time, he was a student at a state university and also a student at a bible school and I'm proud to say he graduated both with flying colors, even became a professor at the bible school.

So you see, my dad has always been big on schooling but he still had that vision to fix us up with other things because he knew that school wasn't everything.

But you see, watching my old man do all of that at that age kinds motivated me and made me have more passion for school, I wanted to go to school and just study real hard and make him proud. But they say that a lot of things might look beautiful for afar, you just have to wait until you get real close, then you see how ugly it actually is.

When I eventually got into the university, I was hyped about the whole thing but it didn't take long for me to find out that the system was designed for you to fail unless you're willing to bend to their rules, which also involves fraudulent activities. It got to a stage where school kinda lost its meaning for me.

I remember during my final year, I hardly went to class because a lot of these lecturers had nothing else to offer. They had all sold their pride for money and there was nothing new coming from them. Just buy their materials, come for the test and exams and you're good to go. The whole firsthand experience just made me realize how over rated school is, especially in this part of the world.

Currently, I feel like anyone who's done with high-school doesn't really have to further their education unless they're going for a professional profession like law and medicine and it better not be in this country.

I remember during my last paper I had asked a friend of mine if he plans on furthering his education after this and the young had looked at me, laughed and told me that becasue God had mercy on him and helped him survive this one, that I want him to go test God again?

That basically was him screaming helllll naahhh and honestly, I don't blame him. Unless it's in a different country where things work and it doesn't feel like the school is after my life, I honestly have no plans in furthering my education.

I completely agree with you. In many places education is worthless. Unfortunately corruption has undermined ethics and values, leaving aside objective and impartial evaluation, based on a coherent and updated curriculum, for simply money, and other forms of payment. I am not saying that this is the case everywhere. So those who have an educational system that does provide the academic level they dream of can consider themselves fortunate. I really appreciate the honesty of your post. Well done. Regards @prayzz

Thank you for reading @aaalviarez and yeah I agree with you, there are places where education are what it should be.. Those are the kind of places where I would like to further my education if I do get the opportunity.

Your father faced 2 exam at the same time and it's not so easy to do. It's impressive.
I think the education system is corrupted and teachers became the corrupted businessman.

All the lecturers this days are millionaires because of the money they extort from students everyday. They don't even bother to lecture properly anymore, all they care about is the money you're paying to them.

Please send a high five to your dad. Really, he is a great motivation to me. Imagine, I have been giving excuse of furthering my education due to children but he pursued two certificate at a go even as a dad..that's a bunch of determination

Education isn't what it supposed to be here and I hope they look into it. Nowadays people think twice before furthering unless it's those professional courses as you mentioned

Hehehe I will 😂.

Education isn't what it supposed to be here and I hope they look into it.

If we're being honest, it will take years before anything is done about it because even those who are suppose to make the change are also the ones spoiling the system.

Your dad was a great man, I must say. Pursuing two degrees ain´t easy at all but he did it. Your dad knows well that education alone cannot make an individual survive, you must have something else doing to back your education up in case if you eventually graduate and do not get a job, there will be something to fall back on so one doesn´t lack. One thing is to have the financial capability and another is to have a system that is ready to motivate and encourage you and that cannot be found in Nigeria oo.

He still is, he's alive 🙂.

Your dad knows well that education alone cannot make an individual survive

Exactly, and I believe everyone knows that now with the amount of unemployed people multiplying everyday.
