Nobody Listens
Nowadays, there are countless news stories of young people dying from kidney failure and the like, and it's very scary. Someone who recently worked at the barbering salon where I go to cut my hair had recently just died due to the same thing, and for some reason, I just can't help but feel like I have a couple of friends whose burial I just might be attending soon.
Of course I'm not wishing death on these people, but there are certain things you see, certain lifestyles that these people choose to live, that just make you know that they're heading straight for doom.
I used to have this friend who not only smoked but also drank and also took pills just to get high. He's the kind of guy that is always down for whatever, the life of the party kind of guy. Whenever the matter involved getting high, he's the guy to call.
The sad part about this whole thing is that he also happens to be one of the nicest people I've met in my life. A very selfless guy who always makes himself available to help everyone, even if it meant putting himself last. So you see why it hurts watching a guy like that do the things that he does to himself.
Unfortunately, he moved to a different state for work, and why I said unfortunately was because that also happens to be the state where he had been introduced to that life, so it means he had moved back to where he's going to have a lot of access to more drugs and alcohol.
But while he was here, I tried a couple of times to talk to him about his lifestyle, and while he needed to feel offended, he never really changed either. And this is mainly because he was now addicted to this stuff and would most definitely need professional help to stop.
Hopefully, I pray he gets that help someday, and I don't get to attend his burial due to misuse or him overdosing on one of the many things he takes.
