Friends

You know that thing most Nigerian men say as a joke, something about all women having a bit of craziness in them and how we can only pick our own crazy lady and try to live with her, I think the same thing applies to having friends too.

I believe that unless you don't intend to have friends at all, you would hardly see any friend who would be there always, and by always I mean one hundred percent. I say this because we're humans and whether we like it or not, every human has their flaws and a time will come when we will see that side of our friends and probably be shocked, because we never expected something like that from them.

I've once written about a friend of mine who I thought was the kindest and nicest person in the world because of how he always tries to be there for me, but then he suddenly changed the moment money got into the equation. I was shocked and couldn't believe it but I soon realized that when it comes to humans, the one thing that is constant is change.

Reminds me of this lady friend of mine. One time we were discussing about her past relationships and she had told me she had no plans in dating anyone for the rest of that year, she was just going to leave life and be free. Two months later after that conversation, she started dating my friend. I was surprised but that didn't stop me from teasing her, telling her that she wasn't strong enough to resist my friends charm and keep to her word. The whole thing though made me realize how volatile the human mind can get, and that we can be one thing today and be another thing tomorrow.

But that doesn't mean that you have to end your friendship whenever your friends behaves in a way they usually don't. Sometimes we just have to readjust and make some changes now that we know that he or she is capable of doing that thing to you. You reevaluate and know how close you want that person to be to you and then you also know that some certain things can't be said or done with that person.

If that is too much work for you, you can go ahead and end the friendship, but just know that you can't just end every friendship whenever your friend behaves in a strange way, you probably will end up with no friends.

So study them and know the kind of friends you have and the kind of way you want to move with them.

You're right. I'm usually one to distance myself once I notice something is off and I don't bother to even notify.

Well I guess everyone deals with it in their own kind of way.

I have been advised to speak out but I prefer to maintain my silence.

I totally understand. There are friends who don't like being corrected or called out... In this cases, it's best to keep your distance.
