A Snitch
Sometimes, there are certain situations that we find ourselves in that we just wish we could explain to the people and make them realize that what it looks like isn't what it seems, but unfortunately, the more you try to explain, the more guilty you look.
Two weeks ago a neighbor, who is also my friend, was telling me about a misunderstanding he had with his girlfriend and how that misunderstanding led to her getting upset and moving out of his place. He basically was confiding in me and telling me personal stuff he usually wouldn't tell anyone.
And I feel that is because he knows that I'm not the type of guy to tell his business to anyone else. Well, about a week after he said all of that to me, we both were seated outside, conversing, when another neighbor/friend had walked up to join us.
Shockingly, the first question this guy asks is about the other guy's girlfriend. He had asked him why he hadn't seen her around for a while. And immediately after he asked that question, the neighbor who had confided in me had quickly diverted his gaze toward him.
He didn't say anything, but I could feel his eyes asking all the questions and laying all the accusations. I knew for a fact that he thought that I had gone to tell the other guy what he told me, hence the question, but that wasn't true, and in that moment, all I wanted to do was shout out loud that I didn't tell the other guy anything.
But unfortunately for me, having to explain myself when no questions have been asked of me would immediately be seen as an admittance of guilt, and that was the last thing I wanted, so I kept mute.
The crazy thing is that the friend who confided in me has never brought up the conversation again since then, and I just can't help but feel that he probably thinks I'm a snitch who goes about telling people about other people's business.
