A Conversation on Corruption
A while back, I was having a conversation on corruption with someone I know, and he had made a statement that I couldn't agree more with. He had said that if there was no corruption in the country and things worked the way they should, that a lot of us would be affected by it.
Basically, he was saying that we've all gotten used to living a life where corruption is the talk of the day, that living differently would be a bit difficult for most people.
Earlier today, I was asking a lady that I knew was writing her exams how the paper she wrote the previous day was. And she had proceeded to explain to me how difficult the exam was because it was mathematics. She had told me how she wasn't able to write anything because of how difficult the questions were, but then I had also noticed that she looked unbothered about the whole thing.
So when I asked her what her plan was, she told me that she would sort out the course, which basically was just her telling me that she would pay some money to the lecturer to give her some extra marks to help her pass.
I wasn't surprised by this, to be honest, because it's not exactly a new thing. But for some reason my mind immediately flashed back to that conversation I had with that person about corruption, and if that conversation wasn't clear before, it was now.
But you see, that doesn't mean that I'm in support of corruption being the business of the day because the truth is, that lady probably didn't study well enough for that exam because she knew there was always the second option of bribing the lecturer. If that was an option to begin with, if that lecturer wasn't that corrupt, I'm sure she would have read thoroughly and wouldn't have failed, or probably would still have failed and would be forced to retake that exam the next year.
Hmm. The people have already become used to the corruption, and that's why people are acting in that way.
