My wife and I went to the lakeside. While passing by, I stopped briefly at the Lontang Mendale cave. This cave is located on the side of the road, not far from the lake, precisely in the Mendale village area. The cave is a historical site in Takengon and is thousands of years old, a historical relic of the origins of the ancient humans of the Gayo tribe.

We entered and explored the cave area. The cave was neatly arranged and fenced. The cave, with its rough cliff texture, like a coral cliff, was formed naturally and provided protection for these ancient humans, serving as a home for them. Unfortunately, when we visited, there was no spokesperson for the cave, so we read from several posters placed on the cliff.

Since the door/fence was open, we entered and explored the cave area. Inside the cave, we saw two ancient human bodies or skeletons that had hardened into stone. Historically, these are said to be the remains of the ancestors of the Gayo tribe in ancient times. The skeletons lay there, uncovered by nothing but cloth or a roof.

The atmosphere immediately became mystical and chilling. The skeletons of the two ancestors exemplified the existence of life in that place at the time. This trip provided me with insight into the origins of the ancestors of the Gayo people who inhabit the Takengon highlands.

Saya bersama istri pergi ke pinggir danau, sambilan lewat dijalan, saya singgah sebentar ke gua loyang mendale. Gua ini terletak di pinggir jalan, tak jauh dari danau, tepatnya di daerah kampung Mendale. Gua itu merupakan tempat berserjarah di takengon dan telah berusia ribuan tahun, sebuah peninggalan bersejarah asal usul manusia purba di suku Gayo.

Kamipun masuk dan menyusuri area gua tersebut, gua nya tertata dengan rapi dan dipagari. Gua dengan tekstur tebing kasar, seperti tebing batu karang, terbentuk secara alami dan mampu memberikan perlindungan bagi manusia purba tersebut, ini menjadi seperti sebuah rumah tempat mereka tinggal. Namun sayangnya pada saat kami berkunjung kesana, tidak terdapat juru bicara untuk gua tersebut, sehingga kami membaca dari beberapa poster yang tersedia di tebing.

Karena pintu/pagarnya terbuka,Kamipun masuk dan menyusuri area gua. Di dalam kubangan gua tersebut kami melihat 2 jasad atau kerangka manusia purba yang sudah tampak mengeras berbentuk batu, konon dalam sejarah itulah jasad nenek moyang suku gayo pada masa terdahulu. Kerangka itu terbaring begitu saja, tanpa ditutupi kain atau atap apapun.

Seketika Suasana sekitar pun terasa menjadi mistis dan membuat merinding. Kerangka kedua nenek moyang tersebut menggambarkan bahwa adanya kehidupan ditempat itu pada masanya. Perjalanan kali ini memberikan saya pengetahuan tentang asal usul nenek moyang suku Gayo yang menempati wilayah dataran tinggi, Takengon.
