Happy Birthday @erikasue: Keeping Her Memory Alive

Six months had passed since she was gone. But it seemed like it was just yesterday.

Today is a special day to me since this day must have been the 25th birthday of my dearest sister, @erikasue, a reminder of her absence and the life she did not get to live.

Although she is not physically with us anymore, still it is a day to celebrate the life of my late sister as she would have turned another year older by gathering my family and friends, and by preparing the foods that she once enjoyed.

As we gather with my family and friends to honor her memory, I admit that I am experiencing a range of emotions. At times like these, I have the feeling of a mix of sadness and pain.

Still, I am feeling a deep sense of loss and I miss my sister terribly, but also I find long comfort in the memories I share and the love I still feel for her.

Celebrating her birthday is a way to keep her memory alive, and to feel a connection with her even though she is no longer here with us.

Meanwhile, when we were preparing for the birthday celebration, I suddenly found myself reminiscing about past birthdays and other special moments I shared with my sister.

Last year, during her 24th birthday, we also celebrated it here at my parents’ house. Still today we are gathering now together with her boyfriend’s family, my family, and our friends.

Indeed I am feeling a sense of nostalgia and longing for those times and to wish that she was here with us today. But I firmly believe that she is just around watching over us.

And as I come together with my family and friends, I am also creating new memories and honoring my sister's life in a meaningful way.

We have chosen to celebrate with her favorite foods, a special cake, and decorating something that my sister loved to have.

I designed her sunflower-themed cake with a combination of her self-portrait as the core, but I asked for a friend’s help to bake the cake for her since I am not an expert in baking.

We had made her day extra special. There was a live band played by her boyfriend’s sibling with my father and brother as the singers.

And it also made me remember how active she was in the Hive Open Mic community back then here in the blockchain. If only she was alive, surely she would be the vocalist of this band.

Moreover, throughout the day, I felt sadness, joy, nostalgia, and more. But I am feeling a sense of gratitude for the time I had with my sister, and for the memories and love.

Although she is no longer with me in the physical sense, her spirit lives on in my heart and in the memories I share. It is a time for joy and celebration, a day to be with loved ones, as we share food and make memories.

Perhaps celebrating my sister's birthday is a way to honor her memory and keep her alive in my heart. Her memory will continue to live on through the love and memories I share with one and all.

Happy birthday in heaven, Febe Erika! I love you always and forever my dearest, Peboy.
