🌱Coastal Planting Activity: Mangrove Planting🌱

This morning, at exactly 5AM the youth organizations accompanied with the SFC and the Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation conducted a mangrove planting in the coastal place of Lugait, Misamis Oriental. The mission is to keep the place cool and fascinating and also to prevent the place from being eroded due to heavy waves. Mangrove trees can also helps to all marine animals, they will be inhabited in the mangrove trees and the fingerlings will become safe from big fishes. For today's blog, I would like to share this to all of you my Nature activities we did this morning. The Agency spotted a great place to plant more mangroves and this will help a lot to the environment.

Many environmental groups have already planted mangrove trees in the coast, but per areas only meaning there are limitations of the areas that can be planted so that other agencies and sectors can also planted in here. This place I am standing was the area where Graduating students of Lugait planted their mangroves. For how many years has pass, the mangroves are already stabled and grows very healthy. This place was once a full of garbage but with the help of the Environmental lovers group, they decided to clean the coastal areas and started to put mangroves.

What Are the good contributions of Mangroves to the Environment?

There are lots of good contributions of mangroves to our environment;

• It helps to maintain the balance of eco-system or Nature.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the place.
• Can be a good tourist spots or destination.
• Animals can inhabited the place specially the small fishes.
• Preventing soil erosions due to heavy waves.
• Can make the place cooler and more relaxing.

This are some of the good contributions about this plants and aside of that, this is the only plants or trees that really grows in the salt water areas.

It takes a couple of hours of our planting activities and it was very fun. Along with my friends, we planted almost 300 mangrove trees in the coastal areas. The residents near at this place showed their support by cleaning their place. Even this is a kind of simple activity but it gives a great good impact to the environment. Aside from that, marine animals will be very happy to have their new home as when this mangrove will grow bigger and wider.

Before we start to plant, we conducted a short lecture first on how to plant mangroves in easy way. First we dug a hole in the sand and it must be in 1 foot depth. This will help the plant to stand even if there is a strong water current brought by the waves.

Next, after the mangrove planted, it must be tied in a pole even a bamboo sticks that have 2 feet long will also do. This will make so that the mangroves would not be flashed away. It was very easy to us to dig a hole because it is very sandy, the mangrove trees will easily grow if the areas is sandy.

Some of the plants are started to show the roots and in a few years, this will be inhabited by the marine animals. We are very happy to see the good results of our activity and we hope that this place will maintain its cleanliness and paradise-like place until the next generation to come.

As an Eco-lover, this is one of my task to protect our Mother Nature. This can gives to us a good results if we keep loving and caring our environment.
