The life of a fisherman.

Too hot here to go out with the boat in the day, but sunset grants relief.
175.jpg

Oh yes we received another two day heatwave warning and you might not think that 38C today is very hot, but let me tell you that it's no joke.
On the ocean in a small boat during the heat peak of the day it is even more dangerous as the water acts like a mirror reflecting the frying heat of the sun right onto anything that is above the water.
The fish flee very far out from the shallows to stay in the deep cold waters of the sea.

That old historical jetty in the photo above is finally starting to fall apart as you can see here below.
041.JPG

191.JPG

I saw this small fishing boat cruising out as the boat launching ramp is situated behind the building in the first picture.
179.JPG

The boat was at a distance of 1 kilometer from where I was standing and in the photo below it seemed that there was no pilot at the boat's motor.
180.JPG

But not to worry as the pilot was bent over in the photo above and you can see by their jackets that these guys will spend the night far away in the ocean.
185.JPG

189.JPG

Eventually the little boat started to disappear in the direction of the horizon.

200.JPG

So yes, the families of the fishermen must be fed and their daily task is to go and find the hiding places of the fish. But what a different kind of life that they live. Totally dependent on nature they have learned to provide for themselves and their closely knitted communities.
Their income from the fish sales have sent their children through schooling, built their houses and got them cars, so they have everything that they need.

Now what will happen if all of this were to be taken away from them?
Recently two applications for deep sea blasting in search of oil by two oil exploration companies were granted permission and it would have destroyed the fishing populations in the area. A lifetime of fishing for the fishermen would come to a sudden end.
But like one man the fishermen gathered to fight it and they won, as the permission was stopped. They were backed by some non profit companies and now the fishermen can breathe a sigh of relief.

Money at the cost of nature will eventually be mankind's end, as riches cannot replace life.

And That's All Friends.

I know the East Coast was stopped, have they managed to stop the West Coast as well?

If they did marvelous news, too many people rely on the sea for food, take their blasting and go away, trying this tactic everywhere!

Ah! Have you not heard that an Asian ship has been granted permission to dump a tanker ship full of radio active waste off our west coast. When the article was published 1500 tons of waste was already dumped.
What they didn't reckon with is that it was dumped right into the Benguela current.

Hahaha, you certainly have a way with words Lady Joan.
I am going to do your other replies tomorrow, as this load shedding has thrown my whole day out.
Has it also started at your end?

Oh just finished second round of load shedding! You do know they want a 20% increase, plus have new ideas.., now those who put solar up to pay additional when forced to use their connection to ESKOM.

Snake is eating it's own tail.... saga continues!

Amazing how we get used to our planned days and then load shedding sends us up the creek without a paddle. Yes, we also feel for all of those that have had to close down and so many sitting without jobs.

Many of the smaller businesses that have survived thus far will certainly have big trouble if this situation has to continue. And it will by the looks of things.

Very little to be happy about !LOLZ

If cyclone makes it's way here ESKOM have the excuse of wet coal or another reason to promote for increase, hopefully not.

Small business has been rocked to the core, now people are standing up calling for all these new safety measures to be revoked, including NDC which I personally think is best.

So keeping a positive outlook whatever this gremlin is it is here to stay, learn to live with it.

Luckily the cyclone was a miss, but much trouble with floods in the north.

No comment as we just have to wait and see how things turn out.
What I do know is that some predict an oil price if $100 still this year.
If that happens we will really have to make a pan for manual transport.

Oh yes and thankfully many of us are adaptive.

Does not look like we will see the cyclone, if it moves it will be mid week, this last round of rains and cooler weather had nothing to do with the cyclone for now.

Reason we are changing vehicles the older one is a juice junky, although engine is sound, body has coastal cancer, time to change before I am too old to drive 😆

I wouldn't feel very well living in an apartment in the first photo and would be afraid that these posts would sink 😂
That seems to be another story where David won against Goliath, but this time David has also had some bigger friends 😃

Good evening Hannes,

Hahaha, no we have been on the first floor and also on the roof where they have a lovely pool.
The posts are encased concrete and they were drilled very deep into the ground by the process that is called pile driving. So that building will stand for many more ages.
The seaview on the first floor is a very big Bossa restaurant.

Of course David had had the biggest friends that anyone could possibly have 😊

Cheers and thanks.

Good evening Zac,

I believe you but I would never feel well living there, just as I would love in the top apartment of a skyscraper, but would always fear that it breaks 🤣

The apartments are all available to visitors on a timeshare basis and our Greek friend invited us over when he popped in for a visit. His apartment was on the second floor and he rented it for 7 days.
An amazing view from the top of that building and nothing broke while we were there 🤣 !LOLZ

Cheers and thanks.

Hahaha, maybe when you visit and I take you there, a post might disintegrate and the the domino effect will start. Not a problem as if we fall into the sea we can both just hold onto a big rock to float until they rescue us 🤣 !LOLZ

Cheers and thanks.

Oh yes, I'm looking forward to that, and while we are holding onto that rock a guy runs along the beach shouting "shark, shark" 😂 !LOLZ

Hahaha, so when the shark gets home he will tell his wife that he saw two guys with fat white cheeks and the amazing thing was that both guys only had white brown eye.
When the guys cried their brown tears tasted so bad that got hysterical as he couldn't breathe 🤣!LOLZ

Cheers and thanks.

You're right, some people live on fishing. I Wondering what exactly going to happen if there is no means to feed their family.

They will just have to find another way to support their families, but it is not going to be easy.

Oh yes and whenever we talk to then the are friendly and never complain.
They are proud of their work and equally proud that they can feed their own families without asking for help from anyone.

No matter what the country, fishermen really do deserve the utmost respect for putting their lives on the line. That looks a little boat to be going out deep, but you have to do what you have to do get fish and feed your families as you say. Great captures from 1kn away!
