I chanced on fish at the hospital.

My wife was inside to fetch test results and I waited at the pond.

045.jpg

Nope, it is not a Koi and I have never seen this type of fish before.

Do you know what this is? I think that it might be a young bass, as I saw one jumping up out of the water to catch a floating insect, but it might not be bass at all. I really don't think that it's a Koi, as there were no other multi colored fish in the pond and normally one can spot Koi swimming around.
It was just this lone black fish with white lips.
Come and have a look.

He was eating the algae off this submerged pipe.
047.JPG

Look at that mouth as it is pure white.
050.JPG

And the body is black as he eyed that floating piece of plant.
060.JPG

Gotcha, as he popped up to grab and eat it.
061.JPG

Spun around to grab some other pieces of floating flowers.
063.JPG

And finally a last piece before he dived down and was gone.
065.JPG

Amazing what one can see here and by luck I was standing at a great spot to see the fish as it appeared below me (First photo).
So yes, it was a pleasant surprise as I was hoping to get the geese with their babies, but they were nowhere to be seen
My habit is to stand in an unobtrusive spot and then to wait for nature to come alive, as indeed it did here with the strange fish.
Hope that you have enjoyed the sighting.

Hello, @papilloncharity

Again I enjoy your adventures, nature shows you the unexpected or what you crave because your episodes are interesting to share information, reflection and protection of the environment. The fish told you here I am look at the long, intuitive and black with special lips to eat what the environment offers me and that is beneficial. I congratulate you, this type of publication is fresh, you know how to catch the user and more when it comes to nature in action.

Hugs!

Thank you and yes, I love the unexpected, as most often it is something great.
We are only here for 3 years now and it's going to take many years to explore as much as we can. It is especially on the farms where I find most of the action as the produce draws birds from all over the world and there are also exotics all over the place. The mountains are 6 kilometers away from our home and the Atlantic ocean is also 6 kilometers away. So we have the best of both to explore.

Hugs right back and have some !PIZZA

I thought about carp, but there is no carp in this province as they say that the water is too cold.
Fresh mountain water my friend.
Yeah, that's why I love to wait :)

Fresh mountain water, well we have carp in some ornamental ponds here. I am curious now as to what it was 😂

Carp is not indigent to South Africa as they are a European import that now breeds here in the rivers and the dams. I am still searching for that fish specie name.

We have the scientists researching the bug issue and an extermination team is on stand by for reported sightings. Let's hope that it will work.

I am guessing a carp. It seems to have the broad scales of a carp as well as the strange "lips".

It was also a first thought, but I know carp very well and have never seen a small black carp with white lips. It could be that the carp change colors in this province, but it is not likely.

Here is a carp that I caught years ago during my fishing days.
